Ettling Center for Civic Leadership: Incarnate Word Sisters in History and Drama
The Ettling Center for Civic Leadership presents Incarnate Word Sisters in History and Drama. “For the Good of Others: A Brief History of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio” by Dr. Gilberto M. Hinojosa, History Professor Emeritus and part of “Ashes Could Not Stop Her: A One-Woman Drama on How the Sisters Started Responding to Needs in 1869” will be performed by Sr. Martha Ann Kirk followed by a discussion on how we respond to needs today. These programs will first be held on Tuesday, Jan. 30, once from 1:30 – 2:45 p.m., and once from 3 – 4:15 p.m. in the Mabee Library Auditorium. Honors Program: Human Library
Popular demand has the Honors Program bringing back the Human Library to Mabee Library. "Readers" will check out human "books" for an information exchange on provocative topics to help dispel misconceptions or misinformation. This year's topics include reporter, feminist, addiction recovery, veteran, peace activist, and more. The full catalog can be found online at here. UIW Presents 15th Annual Red Dress Fashion Show & Health Fair
The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is proud to present the 15th Annual Red Dress Fashion Show & Health Fair, Tuesday, Feb. 13. Join us from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the UIW Student Engagement Center (SEC) for healthy living information, demonstrations and tips provided by students from UIW’s professional programs. Plus, visit local vendors to shop for unique gifts just in time for Valentine’s Day. The highlight of the event will take place at 12 p.m. as the Red Dress Fashion Show takes place in the SEC Ballroom. The annual Red Dress Fashion Show & Health Fair supports the American Heart Association and their Go Red campaign during National Heart Month in February. The event is free and open to the public.
2018 San Antonio Tricentennial Higher Education Events
Campus Engagement, ECCLS, and International Affairs: Diversi-Tea/Collation
Representatives of the Campus Engagement Office, the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability, and International Affairs host Diversi-Tea, held Wendesday, Jan. 24, 2018. The daily tradition of “Collation” of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word dates as far back as 1876 when the Sisters would gather for a break each afternoon after returning to the convent from teaching in the local schools and helping in the hospitals. The Sisters would reflect and spend time with each other over tea and bread or cookies.
Spring 2018 Student Org Fair
UIW students represent Greek life at the spring 2018 Student Org Fair. The Student Org Fair took place on Wednesday, Jan. 24, and served as an opportunity for students to learn about the many ways they can become involved in campus life.

Center for Teaching and Learning: To Flip or Not to Flip
Join presenter John Stankus for the Center for Teaching and Learning’s session, To
Flip or Not to Flip, on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 8 a.m. or Thursday, Feb. 1 at noon in
AD 212. In the flipped model, students get a first introduction to the content before
class meets, often through short videos. This early preparation allows more class

Announcement from Lisa Bazley, VP for Information Resources
Please join us in welcoming Brian Anderson to the university. As Director of Information Security, Brian is responsible for the development and enforcement of the university’s information security policy and strategy. Brian comes to us with an impressive background in cyber security operations and security infrastructure. From 2009 to 2014 Brian was the Cyber Defense Range Director and Lead Cyber Defense Tactician for the Texas Air National Guard, San Antonio. In 2014 he joined Texas A&M University, San Antonio as the information security officer. We are pleased and quite fortunate that Brian has joined the UIW IT leadership team. Feel free to drop Brian a welcome note at bjAnders@uiwtx.edu or stop by to visit him in his new office on the ground floor of the Mabee Library.
