The College of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences (CHASS) hosted a public lecture with scholar Devery S. Anderson, author of Emmett Till: The Murder that Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement, Wednesday, Sept. 13. The book,is the definitive account of the murder of 14-year old Emmett Till in Mississippi, an event that is often credited as the "beginning" of the 20th Century Civil Rights Movement. Meet the Mission 2017 is from 7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., Friday, Sept. 15. UIW students and employees meet to go out into the greater San Antonio community and provide volunteer services to help other community service providers and agencies. Light the Way Volunteer Day
Join us for the 2017 Light the Way Volunteer Day and help prepare for one of the most anticipated events of the holiday season. dr. dede rios 2017

Dr. Dede Rios, director of optometric & clinical library services, has been selected as a Fellow in the 2017-2018 NLM/AAHSL Leadership Fellows Program, sponsored by the National Library of Medicine and the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries. The Program prepares emerging leaders for director positions in academic health sciences libraries through a year-long mentoring relationship with a director of another library and a curriculum focused on developing leadership knowledge critical to enhancing the value of libraries in their institutions. In this highly competitive program, Dr. Rios will be one of ten fellows and mentors from academic health sciences libraries across the U.S. who will begin their work together in November. Since the program began in 2002, 49% of all fellow graduates have assumed director positions. More information about the program is available at this link.

2017 honors convocation

The UIW Honors Program hosted its Honors Convocation Tuesday, Sept. 12 The UIW Development Office provided two $2000 merit scholarships for the Honors Program to award in recognition of the tenth anniversary of the Honors Program. 2017 personal safety workshop

As part of National Campus Safety Awareness Month, the UIW Police Department is presenting "Personal Safety" training for all members of the UIW community. The training will provide personal safety tips including how to contact the police department, personal security, home security and situational awareness.
