A Time to Break Silence Panel Discussion
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech, Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence. Human Library
The UIW Honors Program is hosting a unique educational experience called the Human Library. Human books are real people who are on loan to readers like you, ready to accept your questions about the topics they represent. 2017 spring rosenberg school of optometry rso welcome third year studentsThe Rosenberg School of Optometry welcomed its third-year optometry students back for the spring semester Friday, Jan. 13, with a game of Trivial Pursuit-Optometry Knowledge Review.

2017-2018 Residence Life Staff Recruitment
Residence Life has opened recruitment for their staff. Their department maintains a variety of positions: resident assistants, office assistants, drivers and tutors at both UIW and at Madeleine Hall (IWHS & SACHS). Blackboard User's Group Meeting
The Office of Instructional Technology is hosting the January Blackboard User’s Group Meeting at 12 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27, in the Administration Building, Room 245. This meeting will go over tests and item analysis. This session will outline item analysis, explain how to run an analysis and review the results. Institutional Review Board Online System Training and Q&A
The Office of Research Development is offering a brown bag training session at 12 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27, in the Nursing Building, Room 142 on the online IRB submission process. Attendance is recommended for faculty, staff or students who conduct research with human subjects and plan to submit applications for IRB approval. Bring your lunch and your questions. UIW Highlight

Dr. Annemarie Walsh Memorial Service
Dr. Annemarie Walsh, former director of the UIW Fashion Management program, passed away surrounded by her family on Dec. 19, 2016. In 1993, Dr. Walsh became the director of the Fashion Management and Design department until her retirement in 2007. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Jan. 28, in Our Lady’s Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Dr. Annemarie Walsh Scholarship Fund by calling (210) 829-6013.

Bereavement Notice
Rosalinda Villarreal, secretary to the Dean of Pharmacy Practice, Feik School of Pharmacy, is mourning the loss of her mother, Jovita D. Villarreal, who passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17.  A Rosary Service will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22, at the Trevino Funeral Home (226 Cupples Rd., 78237). Funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m., Monday, Jan. 23, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church (130 S. San Augustine, 78238) with burial services to take place at San Fernando Cemetery II (746 Castroville Rd., 78237).  Please keep Rosalinda and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Promoting Harmony in the Classroom
This Center for Teaching and Learning workshop will be in two sessions in the Admin. Bldg., Room 212. The first session is at 12 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 24, with lunch, and the second session is at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, with wine and cheese. Participants will explore ways to develop shared norms for classroom behavior, to avoid conflicts with students and to de-escalate the conflicts that do arise. Register here. Making the Most of a Textbook

Presentation Software with a Difference:  Sway and Thinglink
This Center for Teaching and Learning workshop will be in two sessions at 12 p.m. in the Admin. Bldg., Room 212 with lunch provided. The first session is Monday, Feb. 13, and the second session is Wednesday, Feb. 15. Sway, a Microsoft product, is designed to present ideas simply and vividly on a screen rather than to an audience in a classroom or at a conference. St. Anthony Catholic High School Garnet and Grey Scholarship Gala
The Garnet and Grey Scholarship Gala is SACHS’s largest fundraiser of the year to raise money for student scholarships. This year's event promises to be the best yet with dinner, drinks, auctions and music by Finding Friday. The gala is from 6 – 11 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, in the McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room.
