The University of the Incarnate Word celebrated its Fall Commencement Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Freeman Coliseum. Congratulations to all the graduates on their accomplishments and hard work.

Events

Vegas Night
The community is invited to UIW Athletic’s Las Vegas Night from 7 – 11 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16, in the McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room. You must be 21+ to attend. Entry fee of $50 provides dinner, drinks and $1,000 in gaming tokens. Door prizes and casino prizes will be distributed at the end of the event. For info, email Mark Papich at papich@uiwtx.edu.

Advent with the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word
Celebrate Advent with the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. The following are upcoming events happening for the Advent season. For more info, contact (210) 828-2224.

  • Christmas Novena – 4 p.m., Dec. 16 – 23 (except Dec. 18), in St. Joseph’s Chapel at The Village at Incarnate Word.
  • Festival of Lessons and Carols – 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 18, in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word.
  • Christmas Eve Mass – 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 24, in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word. Music begins at 5 p.m.

Holiday Treasures Art & Craft Sale 2016
The UIW Department of Art is hosting an Art & Craft Sale from 6 – 10 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16, and from 12 – 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17, in the Kelso Art Center. 2016 rosenberg school of optometry rso holiday door contest winner

Libby Macias, student affairs coordinator at the Rosenberg School of Optometry (RSO), won the RSO Holiday Door Decorating contest Friday, Dec. 9. Her door was named "Optometry Life."

2016 office of enrollment angel tree party

The Department of Enrollment, which includes the Office of Veteran Affairs, Office of Career Services, Office of First Year Engagement, Office of Life Skills and Office of Admissions, adopted a family of seven and hosted an Angel Tree Wrap Party Thursday, Dec. 15.

Bereavement Notice
Jo Ann Ybarra, student resource specialist in the Registrar’s Office, Michelle Vasquez (BA ’03), and Joe Vasquez, assistant director of web development, are mourning the loss of their dear father and grandfather, Ernest R. Ybarra, Jr., who passed peacefully on Dec. 13, 2016 at the age of 84. Please keep their family in your thoughts and prayers.

IRD December 2016 Maintenance

Phone System Maintenance
The AVAYA phone engineer will be conducting maintenance on the phone system from 5:30 – 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20. The maintenance window is scheduled to last approximately thirty minutes. During this period, the AVAYA Modular Messaging System (Voicemail feature) for all phones on the UIW Main Campus and extended campuses will be down. All voicemail services will be affected for approximately thirty minutes.

Alternative Giving Program
Women’s Global Connection continues to offer its Alternative Giving Program this holiday season through Dec. 25. Honor a loved one by sponsoring an animal grant for a woman in Tanzania to receive a pig or goats for her small agricultural business, sponsor preschool children and programs in Tanzania, Zambia and Peru and so much more. Third Friday Birding
Come take a leisurely walk through the Headwaters Sanctuary with one of our birding specialists from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 16. Please wear close-toed shoes, long pants, and bring water.
