UIW Acting President Dr. Denise Doyle addressed the community for the annual State of the University presentation Thursday, Oct. 27, at the CHRISTUS Heritage Hall at The Village at Incarnate Word. The community received updates on the university's state of affairs, the medical school, budget, enrollment and upcoming events.

Día de los Muertos Mass
The Día de los Muertos Mass is at 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 30, in Our Lady's Chapel. Following Mass, the Modern Languages Department will serve pan de muertos, and University Mission and Ministry will provide hot chocolate. An altar will be in the chapel foyer, and you are invited you to add a picture or other small item in honor of someone who has died. Alumni Memorial Mass

The Office of Human Resources ends its week of retirement presentations in the Mabee Library Special Collections Room Friday, Oct. 28. Homecoming Registration Now Open
All Alumni & Parent Association Homecoming 2016 events are open for registration. Trunk or Treat & Haunted House
Bring your family to enjoy this fun event at the McCracken House (102 Mt. Erin Pass, 78212) from 5 - 7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 30. Dress up in costume, bring a bag and collect treats from "trunk" to "trunk" and enjoy a family-friendly haunted house. There will be a pumpkin patch with games, face painting and photo opportunities. Homecoming Department Door Challenge
Departments are invited to decorate their doors for Homecoming starting Monday, Oct. 31. The theme is "traditions" in the spirit of Homecoming Week. The winner receives a department lunch sponsored by the Office of Alumni & Parent Relations. Students will vote on their favorite door via social media. ECCL Provides Transportation to Voting Site
The Ettling Center for Civic Leadership (ECCL) is proud to announce that they assisted over 600 students, faculty and staff register to vote as a result of awareness events and programming beginning in preparation for the Nov. 8 election day. ECCL will provide transportation to any UIW community member who is registered to vote in Bexar County from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1, and Wednesday, Nov. 2 for early voting.

Brandon Courtney - Veteran & Author Reading
UIW presents award-winning poet and veteran of the United States Navy and Operation Enduring Freedom, Brandon Courtney will read his work and discuss war trauma, PTSD, and the role of writing in recovery at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1, in Ingrid Seddon Recital Hall. 2016 school of physical therapy

Students, faculty and staff from the School of Physical Therapy (SoPT) helped celebrate National Physical Therapy Month by participating in the National PT Day of Service. They helped organize clothing and household items in the warehouse at Haven for Hope on Saturday, Oct. 22. Mindfulness Groups
The Office of Counseling Services is offering a free mindfulness group from 12 - 12:45 p.m., each Friday through Oct. 28, in the Administration Building, Room 422. Attendees will learn about the benefits of mindfulness, and each week a new technique will be practiced. OU Campus Training Session
Web Development's next web training session is 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28, in the Mabee Library, Room 230. This session will detail instructions on gadgets in the OU Campus web content management system. The Seddon Recital

Speaker Series - Falling in Love with Robert Cormier: Exploring an Archive

Division of Extended Academic Programs

Announcement from the Division of Extended Academic Programs
The Division of Extended Academic Programs (EAP) has renamed our two schools to more closely reflect our programs instead of the modality of our offerings. The School of Professional Studies (SPS) (formerly referred to as ADCaP) houses our business degrees to include undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees. Criminal Justice is also part of SPS. See the school's website here. Students in SPS have the option of doing classes in-class, online, or blended. SPS is also the home of the Office of Personal Development where students can take non-credit continuing education courses. The School of Applied Sciences (SAS) (formerly referred to as UIW Online) is home to our health sciences, psychology, RN to BSN, and education degrees. See the school's website here. SAS offers students the options of doing courses in-class, online, blended, or competency-based education.

A Guided Celtic Walk to Thin Places in The Headwaters
Join the Headwaters at Incarnate Word for a guided Celtic walk through the Headwaters Sanctuary from 9 - 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 29. The Celtic tradition has always honored "thin places" as places where heaven and earth were closely connected. This walk will offer quiet meditations that will reflect the Celtic vision that enables us to see "thin places" of healing and mystery right before our eyes. Religious Studies Professor Sylvia Maddox will lead the retreat. She is the co-author of "Praying with The Celtic Saints." This program is limited to 14.
