A Tapestry of Immigrant Stories
Over the years, the university has welcomed many international students, faculty, administrators and staff. The people who have become part of our UIW community bring with them gifts of character, talent and intelligence. Two years ago, some members of our international community agreed to share their stories of how and why they came to UIW. Based on these interviews, the Extended Run Players have developed a readers' theatre production, A Tapestry of Immigrant Stories, which celebrates our global community. Join the Extended Run Players and the community at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16, and 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, in the Ingrid Seddon Recital Hall. Ticket prices are:

The Day Room
The UIW Department of Theatre Arts invites you to The Day Room, a mind-bending look at the thin line between what's real and what's not. The Day Room celebrates the power of imagination even as it indicates our treatment of mental illness. In The Day Room, reality is provisional and locations and identities can shift in an instant. The moment we think we have a handle on what's real, everything changes. Robert Ball directs The Day Room with scenery designer by Christopher McCollum, costumes designed by Margaret Mitchell and lighting designed by Justin Bennett. Mission Pilgrimage with CCVI History and Mission History
For young people, for elders and for all to learn, pray, make friends and be renewed as we visit historical treasures in our city. Let us recommit ourselves to mercy and to service as we visit where Franciscan priests came in 1731 and where the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word came in 1869. Enjoy the Missions which UNESCO has designated World Heritage Sites and San Fernando, the oldest cathedral sanctuary in the United States. This begins at the Chapel of the Incarnate Word and will include the new CCVI Heritage Center Museum, Mission Espada, and Mission Concepcion. Institutional Review Board Online System Launch and Training
The Office of Research Development is proud to announce implementation of the new Ethics Review Manager web based management system for applications to the UIW Institutional Review Board (IRB). Attendance at a brown bag training session is recommended for faculty, staff or students who conduct research with human subjects and plan to submit applications for IRB approval. Improvisations - Oil Paintings Art Exhibit Opening Reception

Undergraduate Mentoring Best Practices Workshop

Tuition Exchange Information Sessions

Submit Your Red Cocktail Recipe
The Office of Alumni & Parent Relations is looking for the perfect red cocktail recipe to become UIW's signature drink. All drink submissions must be emailed to alumni@uiwtx.edu by Friday, Sept. 23. What We All Need to Know About the Rights of Unaccompanied Immigrant Children
The community is invited to a special lecture at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20, in the Mabee Library Auditorium. The lecture is presented by Melissa Cuadrado, a staff attorney at The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights. Special emphasis will be placed on international and domestic laws in regards to unaccompanied children and information about unaccompanied children in San Antonio. Three Mystics Walk into a Tavern: A Once and Future Meeting of Rumi, Meister Eckhart, and Moses de León in Medieval Venice
Authors James C. Harrington, a human rights lawyer in Austin, Texas, and the founder and director emeritus of the Texas Civil Rights Project, and Sidney G. Hall III, a United Methodist minister, will share their new book with the community at 3 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, in the Mabee Library Auditorium. Three great mystics meet for an imaginary night-long conversation which can invite individuals today to find their own spirituality. The different spiritual paths of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism led them to similar understandings of union with the Divine. Authentic union leads to action for compassion, justice, and justice. Organizing Ideas - Beyond the Outline
The research is clear; students who do some written planning for a paper typically produce better products. However, an outline is not the only way to do that planning, and in fact, the outline has some important limitations. Participants will learn several other planning tools and discuss ways to help students use them effectively. The first 10 participants to sign up and attend either session will receive a $100 stipend. Student Nominations Needed for the 2017 Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation
The 2017 Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation is seeking student nominations by UIW's campus faculty representative, Dr. Zhanbo Yang. This is a STEM scholarship program established by congress, with up to $7,500 annual scholarship amount.Up to four applicants canbe nominated by Dr. Yang. To be eligible, a student must be a current full-time sophomore or junior, who has one or two years of full-time undergraduate study left while pursuing a baccalaureate degree, have a B average or equivalent, and be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or U.S. national, who will pursue a research career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. Light the Way Display Board Contest
All student organizations are invited to kick off the Light the Way season at this year's Display Board Contest, an annual tradition where student groups paint a board that to displayed throughout campus over the holidays. The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, on the seventh floor of the Ancira Parking Garage. Boards must reflect each organization's interpretation of this year's theme, "The Lights are Bright on Broadway." The top three winners will receive cash prizes. The Incarnate Word High School (IWHS) Fall Open House is an opportunity for prospective students to learn more about IWHS. 2016 women's global connection

On Saturday, Sept. 10, a 5.7 earthquake hit Bukoba, Tanzaniawith 16 lives lost and over 250 people injured. Women's Global Connection is happy to report that none of the Bukoba Women's Empowerment Association members or families,or the Hekima School students were injured or killed, but many BUWEA members suffered significant damage or loss of their homes. Three dormitories at the Hekima School are beyond repair. We are continuing to raise funds for the Bukoba Earthquake Relief efforts. The Harp and Shamrock Society of Texas Presents 1916: The Irish Rebellion
The Harp and Shamrock Society of Texas Presents 1916: The Irish Rebellion at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Grossman International Conference Center. This documentary depicts the events surrounding the 1916 Easter rising in Dublin, Ireland. This event eventually led to Irish independence in 1918. The film is narrated by Liam Neeson. A Meditation in The Headwaters Sanctuary
The Headwaters at Incarnate Word is hosting a guided meditation from 9 - 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 30, at the entrance of the Headwaters Sanctuary. This is a guided meditation along the Great Oak Trail providing an opportunity to experience the woodland as a wellspring of wonder and awe and delight. Donald Ewers, UIW alumnus, retired faculty member and Certified Texas Master Naturalist, will be guiding participants on this walk from a perspective acquired through a BA in Native America Studies, five years studying and working with Navajo weavers and forty-four years of experience exploring what has become the Headwaters Sanctuary.
