The Low Vision & Rehab student organization “Painting with a Twist” fundraiser was

Family Game Night
The Doctoral Student Association at the Dreeben School of Education is running a service project from Wednesday, May 4 – Wednesday, May 18 in which they are collecting games and monetary donations to provide snacks and a family games for children in our community. As the school year ends and the children go home for the summer, many, who had relied on activities and food in their Title I schools, do not have sufficient food or options for engagement with their siblings and families. Our goal is to provide a game and snack package for children in need. This project is a collaboration between the UIW Doctoral Student Association and the central office staff of the North East Independent School District. Cardinal Club Student Athlete Advisory Council All-Sports Banquet
Tickets are on sale for the annual Student Athlete Advisory Council All-Sports Banquet, hosted by the UIW Cardinals Club at 6 p.m., Sunday, May 1 in the McDermott Convocation Center. The banquet will honor student-athletes for their academic and athletic success throughout the 2015-16 academic year. Student-athletes that have completed their four years of eligibility will also be recognized and gifted for their commitment to their sport. Awards include the Cardinal Fire Award, which is selected by UIW coaches, and is presented to the student-athlete that has achieved outstanding success in their respective sport and that embodies UIW mission, followed by the Cardinal Spirit Award, which is given to the team that has shown the most support at games, athletic functions, and SAAC participation, and is voted by SAAC. The Pull Tab Award is given to a team to that has collected the largest amount of pull tabs to be given to the Ronald McDonald house to aid children with cancer, and finally the coveted Community Service Award honors a team that has accumulated the most hours of individual and team community service by displaying leadership and action in fostering community service on campus and in the community. Meanwhile, the athletic department selects its Male and Female Athlete of the Year and Student-Athlete of the Year honorees. The event is open to the public and is being catered by Heavenly Gourmet. New Services for the UIW Community - UPDATE
The announcement titled “New Services for the UIW Community” in last Monday’s The Word Today was sent for publication prematurely and has been retracted. The policy approved by the Executive Council to begin June 1 follows.
The University Police Department will provide courtesy jump start services on the properties it patrols: lots on the main campus, the high schools, the McCracken House, the Feik School of Pharmacy, the Watson Loft Apartments and the AT&T lots on Groveland and Broadway. Service to lots further from campus cannot practically be covered by police personnel. Police staff will not unlock car doors or repair or provide flat tire assistance. Vehicle owners will be asked to sign a waiver of liability prior to service.
UIW Police encourages ALL employees and students to have roadside assistance through
their auto insurance carrier or other third party provider. The Roadside Assistance
program will cover services not offered by UIW Police, such as lockouts or flat tire
