The University of the Incarnate Word shares the Redus family’s sorrow and frustration as we all await the results of the investigation. We have heard the concerns of the Redus family and our students and we are committed to ensuring the safety of our community.
It is important to note that throughout the university’s 130 year history, no such event has ever occurred. As an institution, we have struggled over the last few months with the loss of an exemplary student and the commitment to our employee. It has been a difficult position, as the details of what happened on Dec. 6 still remain largely unknown. The severity of the situation is understood.
UIW is an institution committed to faith. It is at the heart of our Mission that the respectful interaction of our diverse community advances the discovery of truth and the common good. As more facts become known and we move forward, we are considering all the feedback we have received from our community. We hear your voices.
The review of policies is standard practice. We are, of course, taking this incident into consideration as we work to ensure the policies are comprehensive and provide a safe learning and work environment for our community. That work will be ongoing.
While the harbinger of litigation limits our conversation, we are not standing idly by. We are and will continue to be dedicated to the safety of our students, faculty, staff, and community.
