UIW Veterans Day Celebration 2012

(San Antonio) The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) will honor all who have served our country, at UIW’s 11th Annual Veterans Day ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7. The ceremony will take place on Dubuis Lawn located on UIW’s main campus, 4301 Broadway, San Antonio, 78209

Speaker for the event is UIW student Tony Patterson O.D., MAJ US Army. Patterson is an optometrist at the San Antonio Military Medical Center and is currently enrolled in UIW’s Masters of Health Administration program.
UIW is home to nearly 1,400 veteran students that are either active duty, veteran or dependents using federal tuition assistance (TA) or VA benefits. The annual Veterans Day ceremony is an opportunity for UIW student veterans and their families to share insights on how their experience of military service blends with the UIW Mission of service.
Guests at the event can also view the “Living Wall,” a display honoring students and loved ones who have served in the military. A formal presentation of the Flag Folding Ceremony will be included in the day’s events to share the heritage and history of what this important ceremony represents. For the second time this year, UIW students will also host a “Toys for Tots” collection during the event – guests are asked to bring new unwrapped toys to be distributed to local disadvantage children for Christmas. “Toys for Tots” is a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve sponsored program.

Following the ceremony, an honor wreath will be placed on the lawn of the Brackenridge Villa located on UIW’s main campus. For details, please contact Karen Wyatt, director of UIW’s Center for Veterans Affairs at wyatt@uiwtx.edu or 210-829-2705.
