UIW ranked in the Top 10 by Military Times

The University of the Incarnate Word is proud to announce its ranking as one of the Top 10 by Military Times as one of the Best University’s for Veterans. UIW is listed at No. 9 of the more than 650 schools who responded to the 2013 Best for Vets: Colleges survey administered by Military Times.

“For all that veterans do for us; they deserve the best of service and a quality educational program. UIW is dedicated to serving those who have served, and that’s why this recognition of excellence is so valued,” said Dr. Cyndi Wilson Porter, VP Extended Academic Studies.

Overall, the surveys demonstrated widespread efforts by schools to accommodate vets and active-duty service members. UIW offers all of the benefits listed below as well as tuition discounts, a dedicated Veterans Affairs Office and is designated as a Yellow Ribbon school.

• Approximately 84 percent of responding institutions said they accept American Council on Education credits, which convert military training into academic hours.
• More than three-quarters waive late fees for students whose military education benefits arrive late, while about half waive interest, advance credit toward books and other expenses, or help students find emergency money.
• Almost 75 percent of schools offer online degree programs, which can be crucial for deployed troops.

One Response to UIW ranked in the Top 10 by Military Times

  1. Joey Sanders says:

Congratulations UIW for achieving such an outstanding distinction as one of the Best University’s for Veterans. It’s incredible how fast UIW has grown in recent years, providing top-notch education to Veterans as well as active duty military members. As an active duty member of the armed forces, thank you for making my pursuit of off-duty education at this institute possible. Deciding to where to attend for my graduate education was a no-brainer when I first looked into UIW back in 2010. Very few schools could even come close to what UIW had to offer and as a resident of San Antonio, I couldn’t think of a better opportunity. Great job UIW!
