San Antonio – UIW is proud to announce that for the first time in school history, enrollment has surpassed the 9,000-mark.
The university’s global enrollment reached a record-breaking 9,188 students in the fall of 2012, a nearly 9 percent increase from last year. The enrollment figure includes more than 1,000 freshmen students and over 700 students at UIW’s academic sites in Guangzhou, China and Mexico City, Mexico.
“This is a historic achievement for us,” said UIW President Dr. Louis J. Agnese, Jr. “We continue to be one of the fastest growing universities in the state by offering innovative academic programs. It also shows the UIW brand is becoming better known each year, not just in South Texas but throughout the country and internationally.”
The university’s enrollment was 1,298 students in 1985, a figure that had increased to 3,702 students by 2000. The 733 students that UIW added this year would have been equal to about 60 percent of the university’s total enrollment from 1985.
UIW offers 80 undergraduate, graduate and professional programs, an increase from the 56 that were offered in 1985. UIW continues to add new programs to serve the community and in August, UIW officially opened the Debbie and Naty Saidoff Center, a $7.5-million state-of-art facility home to the university’s new School of Physical Therapy. The inaugural class of 54 students, who will be studying for a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, began classes Aug. 20.
