Students in the Fashion Management Department at the University of the Incarnate Word prepare for fiesta like their grades depend on it – because they do.
The Cutting Edge Fiesta® Fashion Show, set for Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel, 101 Bowie Street, is the most high-profile final exam in the city for students taking UIW’s Fashion Show Production and Senior Collection classes.
The fashions showcased are created and constructed by seniors in UIW’s Fashion Design program. The 2012 student designers are Paige Digiovanni, Heather Fitzgerald, Veronica Hernandez, Christiana Lazarine, Ricki Martin, Adriana Mendez, Sara Stevens and Adelle Stivalet.
These eight students have worked on their collections for over a year. Their final designs are judged by industry professionals and put on public display in a high-energy New York style runway show produced by students in the university’s Fashion Show Production class.
Proceeds from the Cutting Edge Fiesta® Fashion Show provide scholarships for UIW fashion management students. Since 2006, the fashion show, its sponsors and supporters have awarded more than $40,000 in scholarships to fashion management students. In 2011, The Cutting Edge Endowed Scholarship Fund recipients were Heather Martinez and Veronica Hernandez.
The event is supported by funds raised through donations by The Watson Foundation, Neiman Marcus and Macy’s; table, raffle ticket and medal sales and a silent auction held before the event.
Registration for the 2012 event begins at 10 a.m. with the fashion show set for 11:30 a.m. the luncheon will be served immediately following the show.
