Prepare two musical selections in contrasting styles on whichever instrument (including voice) you are most proficient. You may perform pieces from two different style periods (Baroque and Romantic, for example), or you may perform one classical selection and one popular or jazz selection. Private lesson teachers at UIW concentrate on classical repertoire; however, jazz studies can be pursued through elective credits.
Sheet music must be provided for selections requiring piano accompaniment. Alternately, popular songs can be self-accompanied or accompanied by a recording.
You may request consideration for a music scholarship on the basis of your audition. You may also bring a portfolio with your original compositions in score format and request consideration for a music scholarship solely on the basis of your composition portfolio. Your portfolio should include recordings of all pieces in mp3 format; computer-generated recordings are accepted. If you submit a portfolio, you are still required to audition on voice or an instrument.
