Dr. Patty Lee enjoys an active teaching career and joined the faculty at University
of the Incarnate Word in 2016.
Dr. Lee received her Master of Music and Doctorate of Musical Arts degrees in piano
performance from The University of Texas at Austin, Butler School of Music where she
studied with Nancy Garrett. During her studies she served as an Assistant Instructor
to Martha Hilley and Sophia Gilmson. Under their guidance she taught applied and group
piano classes as well as private lessons for The University of Texas Piano Project,
a program that pairs UT piano majors with young students in the Austin community.
She worked with Dr. Elliott Antokoletz to write the lecture document “Improvisation
on Francis Poulenc’s Improvisations” which received the Outstanding Doctor of Musical
Arts Lecture Recital Award. She was also awarded Outstanding Doctor of Musical Arts
Chamber Recital and the Mary D. Bold Scholarship.
She grew up in California and received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University
of California Santa Barbara where she studied with Dr. Charles Asche. There she won
many awards and scholarships including the Carnzu Clark Music Scholarship, Leni Fe
Bland Music Scholarship, Erno Daniel Memorial Scholarship, and placed in the Performing
Arts Scholarship Foundation multiple times.
She also enjoys an active performing career as a solo and collaborative artist. Recent
performance highlights include the Texas Music Teacher’s Association Conference New
Faculty Recital and Guest Artist Recitals with trombonists Christopher Davis from
Northwestern University and Jon Whitaker from the University of Alabama at Texas State
University. She is a frequent collaborator and has collaborated with students at The
University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University, Texas Lutheran University,
and Concordia University Texas.
Dr. Lee is a member of Austin District Teachers Music Association and currently serves
as Festival Coordinator and is part of the Student Events Committee. She frequently
