Dr. Janice Dvorkin is the Coordinator of the Music Therapy Program at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio Texas for 14 years. She also has a part-time psychological and music psychotherapy practice. She is a licensed Psychologist in Texas and New York State.
Dr. Dvorkin has been practicing as a Music Therapist for 31 years and as a Psychologist for 19 years. She has provided clinical supervision to music therapists and other mental health professionals for 21 years. She has presented her work nationally and internationally. Her areas of interest are the use of object relations theory in music therapy in treatment with Borderline Personality Disordered individuals, music therapy supervision and the emotional development of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Williams Syndrome.She has published this work in music therapy journals and books.
She has also been an expert witness on parents and child development. She continues to present on the basis of the music therapy program, which is learning to work in process as a music therapist, as opposed to product (activity) oriented music therapist. She is also expanding the clinical opportunities available to upper class students, such as university affiliated internships and music therapy service learning in a practice setting.
