Department of Music

Bachelor of Arts in Music or Bachelor of Arts in Music with emphasis in Composition: Audition Requirements

  1. Prepare two musical selections in contrasting styles (classical, folk, popular, jazz) in whichever instrument (including voice) you are most proficient. The same applies if you play/sing only by ear.
  2. All students are required to take the Theory/Aural Skills Placement Test which will be available online in the very near future. For more information about this test, visit the following link: Theory Diagnostic Test

NOTE: If you intend to pursue the Composition emphasis and wish to be considered for a Music Scholarship, you may request consideration on the basis of your Audition; alternatively, you may bring a portfolio with your original compositions in WRITTEN SCORE, and request to be considered for a Music Scholarship solely on that basis; however, you are still required to perform an audition.

You may perform in two contrasting classical styles, such as Baroque and Romantic, for example, or you may perform in any two styles, including popular or jazz. However, be advised that private lessons at UIW will concentrate on classical repertoire; jazz studies can be pursued through elective credits.
