Sr. Walter Maher, CCVI - Faculty Advisor
Sr. Walter Maher, CCVI is Vice President for Mission and Ministry. She has been with UIW since 1972. Sister Maher previously served as a General Councilor for the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. She has a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary’s University (TX); a Master of Arts in Library Science from Dominican University (IL); and a Bachelor of Arts in History and English from Incarnate Word College. Sister Maher’s areas of responsibility include Mission, identity and ministry. Among her many awards and recognition, Sr. Walter is the first recipient of the CFK Humanitarian Award which was renamed in her honor shortly after. She has been a major supporter of CFK since its inception. Sister Walter serves as an advisor to the directors of the organization.
Dr. Sara Jackson - Board Chair
Dr. Sara Jackson is an Associate Professor of International Business at UIW. She is a member of the NASBITE International Board of Governors and has served as President, Vice President and Treasurer of the organization and holds the Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) credential from NASBITE International. She represented North America on the Board of Directors of IATTO, the International Association of Trade Training Organisations. Dr. Jackson was inducted into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame in 2010. She was the Founding Director of the South-West Texas Border International Trade Center, and as Director established the award-winning San Antonio Export Leaders program and created Export Texas, a trade show for small business exporters. Sara was the visiting professor at the European Study Center in Heidelberg, Germany during Spring 2014. She has traveled to more than 40 countries and has taken students abroad every semester for the past 14 years. She is a newly appointed member of the Advisory Board for Cardinals for Kids and is excited, towork with the students running Cardinals for Kids. She is an advisor for the fundraising committee and the operations committee.
Mr. William Bailey - Founding Member
William Bailey is a founder member of Cardinals for Kids. After graduating high school, he spent some time in college before taking a break and working. During his hiatus from school, Will gained experience as a manager in the service industry overseeing a staff of 40 people. Will used his experience and personable skills to his advantage. As director, Will oversaw the entire organization and grew the program to over 50 members in the first 3 months. Will led the charge for the first annual Winter’s Eve Gala in 2014 that grossed over $45,000. His main goal during his tenure as director was to lay a strong foundation that the future leaders of Cardinals for Kids, could build on. Will is a recipient of the UIW Community Service Award. He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Association of Health Care Philanthropy. Will holds a BA in International Affairs and a Minor in Business Administration. He serves asdevelopment specialst for The Childfren's Hospital of San Antonio Foundation. Will says the best thing about working with CFK is “being able to bring the entire community together for such an important cause.” Will is an advisor to the fundraising committee and the directors of the organization.
Mary Briseño is an independent consultant in the area of marketing, strategic planning, and training for the public and private sectors. In addition, she is a Senior Adjunct Faculty member for The University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio where she has taught business courses since 1998. In the early 1990’s, Mary became the first Executive Director of the Free Trade Alliance San Antonio, an international trade organization established to promote and brand San Antonio as a center of trade and international business. She later worked as the first marketing director for the accounting firm of Sol Schwartz & Associates. Mary is most passionate about her community volunteer activity, serving on numerous boards of local non-profits and governmental agencies. Some of the organizations she served on include the Airport Advisory Commission for San Antonio International Airport as a Mayoral appointee, and completed a tenure as the Chair of the San Antonio Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women. Additionally, she has served on some key community economic activities such as a strategic planning committee following the announcement of the closure of Kelly Air Force Base in 1995, resulting in what is now Port San Antonio. Most recently, she served as a member of the governing Board of Trustees of VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority from 2005-2013, where she served the maximum number of years allowed by State Law, having been appointed by both the City of San Antonio and Bexar County. VIA is the largest bus only transit authority in the United States. As a VIA Board Trustee, she served on the Board of The Lone Star Rail District, and the Bexar County Metropolitan Planning Organization, responsible for allocating state and federal dollars for county mobility projects. Mary is an advisor to the Marketing & Communications Committee as well as our Fundraising Committee
Dr. Michael P. Forrest
Dr. Michael P. Forrest is a Professor of Business Law in the H-E-B School of Business & Administration at the University of the Incarnate Word. Prior to this faculty appointment, he taught Legal Writing at St. Mary’s University School of Law and Drake University Law School. In his legal career, he practiced law as a trial attorney, representing governmental entities, and served as a judicial law clerk to both the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa and the Iowa Supreme Court. Dr. Forrest, a recipient of the Mother Columkille Colbert Award for Service, is active in the community as a service volunteer and business advisor. He is inspired by the extraordinary efforts of the dedicated UIW students who established the Cardinals for Kids organization and is pleased to be an advisor for compliance and the finance committee.
Margaret Garcia serves the University of the Incarnate Word as Associate Director of Communications & Marketing. She has extensive experience in both the media and public relations industry including work with a local advertising and public relations agency, the Edwards Aquifer Authority, FOX TV Houston and KMOL (now WOAI TV) in San Antonio. Margaret is the liaison between the university and its two Brainpower Connection high schools, Incarnate Word High School (IWHS) and St. Anthony Catholic High School (SACHS). Her responsibilities include media relations for UIW, SACHS, IWHS and the UIW professional programs. She holds a Bachelor of Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin. Margaret joined our board because she feels that CFK truly embodies the Mission of the Sisters and the university. Margaret serves as an advisor to our Marketing and Communications Committee.
Dr. Trey Guinn
Dr. Trey Guinn’s teaching, research, and professional work is focused primarily on communication effectiveness and human relationships. He is an active member of and frequently presents at meetings for the National Communication Association (NCA) and International Association for Relationship Research (IARR).. As a consultant and executive coach, Dr. Guinn specializes in presentational effectiveness, business pitches, interview preparation, interpersonal relationships, team dynamics, and networking. Dr. Guinn has consulted for professionals locally and across the globe from companies such as Apple, AT&T, Bain & Company, BCG, Chevron, Deloitte, Dell, Intel, GE, McKinsey, Microsoft, PWC, and more. Dr. Guinn is an active member on campus and in his local community. He lives very close to campus with his beautiful wife, their two daughters, and one very spoiled teacup schnauzer. Dr. Guinn frequently speaks to student groups and enjoys serving at local events, lending a hand to campus activities, and teaming up with the Office of Mission and Ministry to help host events like Meet the Mission. He is looking forward to serving on the Cardinals for Kids Advisory Board. His background, education, and experiences have prepared him well for the role. Dr. Guinn is an advisor to the Marketing and Communications Committee.
Sr. Michele O'Brien CCVI
Frank Sanchez currently serves as operations manager for the University of the Incarnate Word’s McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room and Denman Estate. In this position he is responsible for gathering the logistics necessary to execute and implement varied types of events at these venues to ensure adherence to the rental contracts and to provide the highest possible level of customer satisfaction.
It was his role as operations manager that Frank first became acquainted with Cardinals For Kids (CFK), working closely with the organization as they organized their first Winter’s Eve Gala. With his expertise, CFK held a successful event benefitting The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.
Frank joined UIW in 2010. Prior to UIW, Frank worked with the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau, AT&T, American Funds and Catering by Rosemary. Frank is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration.
