Alternative Spring Break 2009

Twenty students and staff participated throughout the week in this year’s Alternative Spring Break in their own backyard.  Students took a cultural tour of the San Antonio Mission’s Trail; painted & cleaned up the grounds of St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Leakey, TX – a rural parish in the Hill country. They worked on landscaping for the Visitation House (a ministry of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word serving homeless mothers and children), prepared for the breakfast and lunch at St. Vincent De Paul, and helped Habitat for Humanity at their warehouse when rain spoiled their work at the Palo Alto Housing site. Each day began and ended with prayer and reflection on each of the areas of ministry - the San Antonio community, the poor, homeless, rural church communities, and local and national initiatives to aid those in need.
