The Center for Medical Tourism Research (CMTR- also see www.medicaltourismresearch.org) invites submission of original research for presentation at the 1st Annual Medical Tourism Research Conference.  As the first academic center devoted to medical tourism research, CMTR is proud to convene the initial gathering of the world’s medical tourism researchers to discuss this historic globalization trend in healthcare.  We will be assembling January 27-29, 2010 at the new Marriott Courtyard Riverwalk Hotel, a historic, converted church on the banks of San Antonio’s amazing downtown Riverwalk.

The conference theme is “Paradigm Shifts and Disruption -- the Impact of Globalized Healthcare”.  Medical Tourism is a disruptive influence on established healthcare systems and should continue to change the dominant paradigm in providing medical care for many years.  The conference will address a wide range of issues, including (but not limited to), these themes:

Researchers should address abstracts to the geographic track chairs listed below, with student papers going to the student track chair.  Abstract submissions are due August 31, 2009 and will be peer reviewed by CMTR researchers and members of the extended academic community with a background in medical tourism research.  For accepted research, final papers will be due November 13, 2009.

We also welcome your interest in serving as a reviewer or session chair at the conference.  Please contact any of the track chairs or the conference chair.  And we look forward to seeing you in sunny San Antonio, at the Riverwalk and historic Alamo!
