Dr. Kevin Vichcales
Dean, School of Graduate Studies and Research

Dr. Kevin B. Vichcales joined the University of the Incarnate Word community in July of 2006 as Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research. As Principal Investigator for the UIW McNair Scholars Program, Dr. Vichcales provides leadership and administrative oversight to the program, it staff, and scholars.
Prior to acceptance of a position with UIW, Dr. Vichcales served in a number of successive administrative capacities over the course of ten years within The Graduate College at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a research intensive institution with a student body of 25,000, of which 5,000 are graduate students enrolled in sixty-six Master’s and twenty-nine Doctoral programs. At the time of his departure from WMU, Dr. Vichcales held appointment as Associate Director of Graduate Studies, and Director of Awards, Training, and Special Projects.
With a major field of Modern Europe; minor fields of 19th and 20th Century Theory and Historiography, and Environmental History/Assessment; and a core field of Methodology, Historiography, and Historical Theory; Dr Vichcales earned his Ph.D. in Modern European History from Western Michigan University in 2003. He also holds a Masters degree in Modern European History from Western Michigan University; and a Bachelor’s degree from Albion College, a selective liberal arts college in Michigan, where he doubled majored in History and Political Science, and completed a minor equivalent to a major in Economics. With a research focus of environmental history, specifically issues of water quality, Dr. Vichcales is credited with presenting and publishing in a number of venues, and posses extensive teaching experience in European, United States, and World history.
