McNair Group

The mission of the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Program at the University of the Incarnate Word is to prepare less affluent, first generation college students, and students from groups underrepresented in doctoral studies, for success in achieving a Ph. D. degree.The criteria for program participation involves the selecting of juniors and seniors with good writing skills an a GPA of at least 2.75, who possess intellectual curiosity and who are
interested in conducting research under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

It is the philosophy of the McNair project that participants have unique needs that must be addressed in order to implement their entrance, retention and successful graduation from a doctoral program. The University of the Incarnate Word has a long history of responding to the needs of their program’s population through varied support services. It is the intent of the McNair Program to build on this strong foundation of services in achieving its goals.
