Manner of Paulo Veronese, Italian, 1530-1588
“St. Helen and the Cross”, circa 1650

Veronese produced great altarpieces in the High Renaissance manner throughout his lifetime and his sumptuous style became the basis for subsequent Venetian decoration. He ranks among the greatest of Venetian painters for his harmonious tonalities and textures. This red chalk drawing is a rendition of one of this compositions featured in the Church of San Sebastian.
