National Science Foundation Mathematics Scholar Program
Available beginning in Fall, 2009-Spring 2013

Initial Eligibility:
- Be enrolled at UIW for the Fall, 2009 semester as an incoming freshman
or
current college student (UIW students or students who intend to transfer to UIW) with 63 semester credit hours or less. Students who are enrolled in the NSF funded S-STEM programs in ACC campuses are particularly encouraged to apply. - Declare a major in one of the mathematics programs (BA or BS)
- Have a GPA of 2.7 or higher for all college level courses. Have 82% or higher for all high school level math courses for incoming freshman or 2.7 (B-) or better for all college level math courses.
- Be eligible to receive federal financial aid and demonstrate financial need as determined by FAFSA.
- Complete an application for the MSP program and supply all required materials.
Continuing Eligibility:
- Maintain a overall 2.7 GPA each semester
- Maintain a B- or better per semester in all required courses for the major
- Continuously enroll as a full-time student during the fall and spring semesters
- Be an active member of UIW’s Mathematics Club
- Actively participate in activities designed for MSP Scholars
- Meet with their Faculty Mentor at least twice per semester
- Be eligible to receive federal financial aid and demonstrate financial need as determined by FAFSA.
Application Process
- Applications are currently being accepted. The deadline is March 1, 2009. Late applications will be considered if there are still scholarship positions available.
- Apply to UIW for admission as either incoming freshman or transfer student, if not already a UIW student
- Complete a MSP application form. Request all high school and college transcripts. Request three recommendation letters, one of which should be by a math faculty. Submit an essay approximately 500 words in length about your mathematics career objectives.
