Integration of Math and Science
Reasons to integrate:
- To increase student learning in both disciplines by showing the interconnected between them,
- To illustrate the usefulness of mathematics in the study of science and the logic of mathematics as revealed in the physical world,
- To develop an awareness of the historical interface between science and
mathematics
Faculty from the mathematics, science, and educations departments began to investigate the possibilities of the integration of mathematics and science courses in response to the awareness that new elementary teachers were being asked to integrate these and other disciplines without ever having experienced such integration in the professional preparation.
The development of courses in undergraduate pre-service and graduate level professional development programs soon followed.
