University of the Incarnate Word Learning Communities:
Dynamic, Interactive Educational Programs for Incoming First-Year Students
Learning Communities are dynamic interactive and integrated curricular programs that launch the educational career for entering freshmen at University of the Incarnate Word. Their student-centered designs are intended to better serve college-bound students from high schools, and to significantly increase the likelihood that a student who enrolls at Incarnate Word will achieve undergraduate degree success.
Learning Communities link courses into blocks that share common themes to create an interactive learning partnership between the courses. Therefore, students enrolled in these grouped courses become a sharing community; and, along with their instructors, they collaborate and learn together. All learning becomes relevant, and experiential in our integrated world of knowledge.
Learning Community offerings satisfy First-Semester General Education requirements, Honors Program tracks, and program-specific clusters for students who have already decided upon their majors.

Learning Communities and The UIW Honors Program:
We are particularly excited about our Learning Communities' relationship with UIW's Honors Program. Learning Communities link two courses into blocks that share common themes to create an interactive learning partnership between the courses. All learning becomes relevant, and experiential in our integrated world of knowledge.
UIW's University Honors Learning Communities offer enhanced educational challenges to students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and promise, and they provide a unique means for students to become leaders, both in the general academic community, and in their chosen field of study. Entering First-Year students placed in Honors Learning Communities receive the most advanced educational experience Incarnate Word has to offer, an experience which serves as a bridge to enhanced opportunities beyond the undergraduate level.
