LAC Mission Statement

To serve the Incarnate Word Community and the community at large through the development and assessment of academic skills - enabling those we serve to become lifelong, confident, and independent learners. We provide a positive, secure, and confidential environment; a peer relationship; the necessary tools for personal success; and a solid platform for academic achievement.We carry out our mission while maintaining respect for individual differences and encouraging individual responsibility and initiative.

General Description

The Learning Assistance Center (LAC) serves the dual functions of providing both tutoring and testing to the University’s students as well as to the community at large. Our goal is to serve those who come to the LAC with respect for the individual as an important member of our community, compassion for our fellow human beings, and the utmost level of confidentiality. LAC services are provided by appointment to afford those we serve with the optimum learning and testing conditions. Tutoring services include individual, group, and in-class assistance in various subjects as well as Conversation Hour for those wishing to improve their English in a relaxed and inviting setting. Testing services include administering CLEP, DANTES, Computer Competency, Professors' Exams, Long Distance exams, ADA Accommodations, and various National Entrance and Certification Exams.
