UIW International Education Week

Join the Celebration This November 13 - 17, 2017

A worldwide Celebration of International Education and exchange through food, culture, music, art and educational events. Over 15 events on UIW campus.

 

UIW is proud to participate in International Education Week. Student Organizations, Colleges and Departments are invited to host events related to international education and cultural exchange. International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education promotes programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to the U.S. to study, learn, and exchange experiences.

IEW 2017

Monday 

IEW Kick Off -  11a-1p @ SEC Concourse

How to Wear a Sari with the UIW Asian Student Club - 12p - 1p @ SEC Concourse

UIW Community: The Name Game 12p @ SEC 2040

Don’t you just hate it when someone pronounces your name wrong.    Imagine how international students feel on a daily basis, pronouncing a name correctly is important to everyone both culturally and personally.   This session provides a quick lesson and take home tool kit to understand and pronounce names from South Asia and Arabic speaking countries.  First, test your knowledge of pronouncing and understanding the nuances behind international student names.   Next presenters will offer an interactive experience on mastering the pronunciation, meanings, traditions and importance with in a name. Diversi-TEA  - 1p- 2p @ SEC Concourse

Come learn more about another culture while drinking our tea of the week! Read more about the history of tea time here at Incarnate Word below: Collation was a daily tradition of the sisters of charity of the Incarnate Word. Recordings show a schedule of daily breaks as far back as 1867. The sisters would gather for vespers each afternoon. They would then reflect and spend time with each other over tea and bread or cookies. At one time the location for "tea time" was in the current location of the hortencias on the university campus.  Hosted by Campus Engagement & Ettling Center. Int'l Student Travel Signature Day - 1:30p - 2:30p @ SEC Concourse

Are you an F-1 or J-1 student traveling back home for Thanksgiving holiday or Winter Break?  Usually travel endorsements take 2-3 weeks to process.  Get same day service on all travel endorsement during Travel Signature Day.  Students must clear all business office and registrar holds, have thier most recent I-20 or DS-2019, passport, visa and space for a valid travel endorsement to qualify.  Hosted by International Student & Scholar Services.  Part of UIW Int'l Education Week for info, contact intl@uiwtx.eduu.

International Food Festival - International student's and businesses cook and share food from their home country. Promote your organization and business through your participation.

PLEASE share the culture and your amazing foods with UIW campus!!

Receive 2- 4 hours of community service for helping prepare and serve food at the Festival!

 

International Bazaar -  Sell Gifts and Vendors from around the world. Vendors can sell items and promote items and other unique gifts as desired.  Tables and chairs will be provided. Parking permit will be provided for off campus vendors
