Holiday Policy

The following is a list of approved UIW/IWHS/SACHS holidays:

Independence Day
Labor Day
Thanksgiving Day
Friday after Thanksgiving
Christmas Eve thru New Year's Day (Days inclusive)
Martin Luther King Jr.
Good Friday
1/2 Day Battle of Flowers
Memorial Day

  • Click on the link for the 2014-2015 Holiday Schedule:Holiday Schedule 2014-2015
  • If a holiday occurs on a Saturday, it will be observed the preceding Friday.  If the holiday occurs on Sunday, it will be observed the following Monday. 
  • As many employees as possible will be given each holiday off, consistent with the need to maintain essential UIW/IWHS/SACHS services.  Employees who are required to work on a holiday will be paid for that day at their normal rate of pay.                                     
  • An employee who is absent without paid leave on the day immediately preceding or following a holiday will not be paid for the holiday.

Please see the University Faculty Handbook or Administrator/Staff Guidelines for specific details. The policy was amended effective August, 2007.  New employees may not take vacation during the first 6 months of employment.
