At Incarnate Word, students enjoy small classes and a close network of family-like relationships between students and professors. With a remarkable student/faculty ratio of 14 to 1 and an average class size of 25, students build relationships that extend beyond the classroom and provide a solid foundation for their future. While at UIW, students enjoy a diversified curriculum and may choose from
a variety of interesting and challenging majors. In addition to the traditional
course offerings, UIW also
offers unique programs such as Theatre Arts, Fashion Design, Computer Graphic
Arts, Nuclear Medicine, Nutrition, and Meteorology; and in May 2006, UIW
celebrated a milestone with the groundbreaking of the Feik School of Pharmacy.
In all, Incarnate Word offers more than 70 undergraduate and graduate programs.

At UIW, working adults get that valuable education in an accelerated, evening, format that costs almost 60 percent off the tuition of a regular private school rate. The Adult Degree Completion Program is offered at three locations in San Antonio: Alamo Heights Center, Santa Rosa Center, and the Northeast Center. We also have a full-service center at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas.

College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences
The College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) provides a well-rounded liberal arts education to its undergraduate students. The degree programs offered by the college include English, Political Science, Psychology, Art, Music, and Theatre Arts. Students interested in medicine, dentistry, law, and other professional fields often major in liberal arts as an excellent foundation for entrance into professional schools.
Incarnate Word’s Theatre Arts program provides students with a strong foundation in the performing arts, a foundation that will enable them to pursue educational and/or professional opportunities in theatre. The Theatre Arts Department presents its theatrical productions in two theaters located on the UIW Campus. This program is accredited through the National Association of Schools of Theatre. It is one of the few accredited programs in the state.
Dreeben School of Education
The Dreeben School of Education prepares future educators for life working
inside a classroom. With small classes of 8 to 20 students, the teacher
education faculty is able to provide individual support and assistance
to students as they progress through the program. UIW offers a B.A. in
Child Studies and certification in interdisciplinary studies, secondary
certification, and offers an all-level teaching program resulting in certification
for kindergarten through twelfth grade. In addition, UIW’s J.E. and
L.E. Mabee Library is also the primary research
facility for children’s play and play environments in the state.
In 2005-2006, UIW’s education students had a 98 percent pass rate
on the Texas Examination of Educator Standard (TExES).
Feik School of Pharmacy
Established in 2006, the Feik School of Pharmacy is the only private professional
school of pharmacy in Texas. The pre-pharmacy curriculum is a rigorous
two-year preparatory program designed to prepare students for admission
to the professional Doctor of Pharmacy program. The Feik School of Pharmacy
offers students a highly sought after Spanish-language
track. Upon graduation, pharmacy school graduates can expect a starting
salary of approximately $85,000 per year. The class of 2010 will be the
first to graduate from this world class program.
Graduate Studies
The Mission of the University of the Incarnate Word provides the guiding principles for all of the graduate studies programs that are offered. The University’s graduate program seeks:
- To create an atmosphere of respect for each student, promoting individual self-realization, cultural diversity and intellectual stimulation
- To instill in each student a spirit of Christian service, based upon ethical reflection, social justice and the promotion of human dignity
- To develop concerned citizens and enlightened leaders who are prepared to meet the challenges of the future with creativity and responsibility
The purpose of the University’s graduate program is to encourage:
- Mastery of scholarly techniques
- Intellectual curiosity expressed in research and independent study
- Investigation of advanced subject matter in breadth and depth
- Ability to communicate the results of intellectually creative work
- Contribution to the field through original research
For the convenience of employed persons, the majority of the University’s graduate courses are offered in the late afternoon, evening, and on Saturday. Most graduate courses in the Master of Arts programs are available on an eight-week format. Graduate students are expected to assume responsibility for knowing policies governing their program, registration, change of schedule, withdrawal, and other policies and procedures of the Graduate Program. For information about their curriculum and graduate policies, students may call their advisor or the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research.
H-E-B School of Business and Administration
Undergradaute students in the H-E-B School of Business and Administration may pursue bachelor's degrees in Applied Arts and Sciences (B.A.A.S.) or Business Administration (B.B.A.) with a choice of several concentrations ranging from accounting to international business, which has a required study abroad component.
All business programs are nationally accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs. The goal of the BBA degree program is for each student to develop a broad understanding of how the elements and processes of business organizations relate to one another and to the external environment.
School of Interactive Media and Design
The School of Interactive Media and Design (SIMD) integrates five academic programs in a dynamic way to better serve the needs our students. Our programs emphasize the use of the latest software and computer technology.
The Fashion Management program is a unique blend of two disciplines, fashion design and fashion merchandising. The fashion design program consists of a collection of courses aimed specifically at apparel design and construction. The fashion merchandising program teaches concepts which will be vital as students embark upon careers in fashion retail and wholesale. The program culminates in the Annual “Cutting Edge” Fiesta Fashion Show, a high-level, New York-style runway presentation totally produced by the students.
School of Math, Science and Engineering
The School of Math, Science, and Engineering offers degree programs for
science-minded
students. Bachelor's degrees are available in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental
Science, Mathematics, Nutrition, and Meteorology. All programs promise
to challenge students and to prepare them for their professional careers
or for graduate school. Graduates are prepared for careers in biology,
medicine, dentistry, teaching, and research. One of the larger programs,
biology, incorporates a broad range of research areas, from biochemistry-molecular
biology to ecology. In addition, UIW offers the only broadcast meteorology
program in Texas. The Meteorology degree program is designed for students
who wish to receive a comprehensive education for the purpose of research
into the dynamics of the Earth’s atmosphere,
weather analysis, and weather forecasting. Students take major courses
in the new AT&T Science Center and the
recently renovated Bonilla Science Hall.
School of Nursing and Health Professions
The goal of the School of Nursing and Health Professions is to provide an excellent studentcentered education that will promote leadership development in the respective health disciplines. For nearly a century, Incarnate Word’s Nursing Program has been a regional leader for nursing excellence and education. The faculty is comprised of skilled practitioners who constantly strive for new ways to foster student learning and is respected in the community for their teaching, research, and service. In 2005, UIW nursing graduates had a 100 percent pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). In addition, UIW has the only Nuclear Medicine degree program in the state offering an accredited curriculum leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science. The mission of our program is to prepare students with the experience necessary for successful entry into the nuclear medicine technology profession.
Universe Online
The Universe can now be yours, 24 hours a day! The Universe Online allows students the ultimate in convenience, but retain the same quality degree programs that our student expect.
Students can “go to school” at times that fit their schedule, instead of ours. You get to pick the time and place when you are ready to start working on your classes. We have weekly expectations, but you get to decide when works best for you.
Universe Online has five eight-week long terms each year, which will allow you to reach your educational goals sooner AND on your schedule.
