SAN ANTONIO – More than 20 students in the H-E-B School of Business attended a workshop luncheon April 11th with members of the San Antonio business community.
The luncheon, held in the UIW Student Engagement Center Ballroom, encouraged students to reflect on their core values and how they can stay true to those values as they enter their professional careers.
The students were asked to consider how their values influence their actions – whether it’s in the career they choose or the decisions they make on a day-to-day basis. The experience gave the students a chance to interact with members of the business community.
“It was a good experience to meet new people, not only to network, but to understand that there are people who have very strong values that they carry into the workplace,” Dillon Manz, a junior marketing major, said. “A lot of the discussion revolved around faith and how to incorporate that into the workplace.”
The local leaders in attendance offered stories from their experience in the business world and gave advice to the students.
“I learned that leadership comes in all forms and styles,” senior Jacqui Hodde said. “I know that wherever life and God takes me, I will continue to do His mission. Like one of the speakers noted, ‘We can go do mission work on a trip elsewhere, but our mission is Monday through Friday, here.’"
Students also heard from guest speakers during the luncheon, including John Weber with Norton-Rose-Fulbright and John Hornsby with Zachry Group.
The luncheon was part of a program – known as the Leadership Lab – offered to local professionals by the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. The Leadership Lab promotes leadership development and workforce preparedness among San Antonio’s up-and-coming business leaders.
