STARS Peer Educators

STARS stands for “Students Teaching and Advocating for Responsible Self-growth.” The University of the Incarnate Word’s Health Services and Counseling Departments sponsors the STARS. Our group of peer educators assists these departments with health and wellness programs throughout the year such as our annual NCAAW’s “Sober Roads” drug and alcohol abuse prevention program, Great American Smokeout, World Aids Day, Blood Drives, and the annual Wellness Fair. The STARS are also part of the “Texans Standing Tall” grant received from the Governor’s Office and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

One of the STARS main concerns is to show college students that making healthy choices is the true norm and that they can begin changing theirs peers’ perceptions about current health issues and what is really happening on the college campus.
