In the event of an emergency for a student injury or illness, call Campus Police at 829-6030. 

The University of the Incarnate Word Campus Police are the designated first  responders to emergency and medical situations.

The Campus Health Center provides basic health services that focus on primary prevention care, health education and counseling, care for acute minor illnesses and injuries, and the maintenance of health records and assistance with the university insurance plan.

At UIW, students are encouraged to take responsibility for their body, mind, and spirit (personal wellness). Students are challenged to examine their own personal wellness plan. Support is given for changes resulting in continued improvement and growth.

Privacy Notice: We value the privacy of our students, most of whom are adults. We will not discuss their care outside of this office without their permission.

Cost: There is no fee for most services available to registered students.

Service Provided:

  • Treatment of minor illnesses and injuries
  • Blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol screenings
  • Referrals to physicians, community agencies and campus resources
  • Health promotion, education, and counseling
  • Assistance with student accident and illness insurance

We offer:

  • Selected immunizations (Influenza, Td, TdaP, Hep B, and Meningitis)
  • Physical exams (by appointment only, call 210-829-6017)
  • TB skin tests (Mon-Wed from 8am-3pm)
  • Over the counter medications
  • Prescriptions for medications when medically indicated
  • Quest Diagnositcs Titer lab request forms

Dr. Bell earned her BSN at Marquette University, and went on to receive her DO degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is a board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and was in private practice in Washington over 15 years. While in Washington, Dr. Bell was involved at WOMA, ACOOG residency site review, and March of Dimes as a board member.

She received her MBA from the University of Washington in 2005, and worked in the healthcare insurance serving as Medical Director for Microsoft and Weyerhaeuser at Premera Blue Cross, culminating as a Chief Medical Officer for a new Medicare Advantage Plan, Sound Path in Seattle, Washington. Moving to Arizona in 2009 as Medical and Operations Director and for Cigna CareToday, she opened eleven clinics in Phoenix and surrounding communities. She has had close medical student interaction as a preceptor, and as faculty at Midwestern University. Dr. Bell has been awarded “Guardian of the Profession” recognition from the AOA.

Most recently she has served as Associate Dean for Clinical and Administrative Affairs for the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine. She has built system wide hospital, clinical, and community relationships that will serve the urban and rural community and the School of Osteopathic Medicine students for clinical rotations.

David a native of Hershey, Pennsylvania has lived in San Antonio since 1991. He earned his BSN from the University of the Incarnate Word, and then earned a Master of Science in Nursing, also from UIW.  David is recognized as an Advanced Practice Nurse and is Board Certified by the ANCC as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Health.

David is retired from the United States Army. Prior to employment at UIW David served as a staff nurse on a Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Unit, and a Progressive Care Unit at Brooke Army Medical Center.

Lorie was born and raised in San Antonio and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 2013 after working the healthcare business office field for over 10 years. She is currently pursuing her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse while taking prerequisite classes here at UIW.

She and her husband have four dogs and enjoy spending time with family and friends. Lorie is a huge animal advocate and helps rescue animals and/or promote adoption from high-kill shelters, and spaying/neutering your pet.
