The Headwaters Coalition

The Headwaters Coalition was created by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word to preserve a 53-acre nature sanctuary that adjoins the University campus. It contains the headwaters of the San Antonio River, called The Blue Hole. Students, faculty and staff are involved with numerous Headwaters projects, including:

  • water quality testing
  • taking inventories of flora, fauna, and aquatic life contained within the sanctuary and campus
  • restoration and removal of non-native species from the property
  • preservation and documentation of the history of human activity on the land, which dates back more than 10,000 years.

Headwaters Coalition is a sponsored ministry of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word.
