B on Time Loan 

The State of Texas is not providing funding for new B-on-Time Loans for 2007-08.  Students who had the loan in 2006-07 and have met the requirements to keep the loan will be renewed for 2007-08; but UIW cannot offer loans to students who have never had this loan before.

Other Alternative Loans

If you need additional funds to meet your education costs, you may select from a variety of alternative loans.  To qualify, you may either have to meet very specific enrollment or academic crtieria; or you may need to have either a credit-worthy co-borrower, or be considered a credit-worthy borrower. Many of the alternative loans begin repayment 6 months after graduation.  Information on eligibility and current interest rates is available through the lender.

Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation Educational Loan

To apply for this loan, you must be a full-time enrolled junior, senior or graduate student and you must be a Texas resident and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.  This is not a credit-based loan.  The interest rate for this loan is a flat 4.0 %.  Juniors and seniors can borrow up to $1000 per semester.  Graduate students can borrow up to $2000 per semester.  For additional information or an application, contact:  Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation, 1250 NE Loop 410 Ste. 810, San Antonio TX 78209, 210-525-8594, email:  studentloan@mspf.org.

Evalee C. Scwarz Charitable Trust for Education

The Evalee C. Schwarz Charitable Trust for Education provides  interest-free loans to undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance and significant financial need.  To be considered, a student must be a U.S. citizen, qualify for financial aid in the form of government grants, be enrolling in a school in the state of the student's residence, and have an outstanding combination of grades and standardized test scores.  Loan amounts range from $5,000 - $15,000 per year, with a lifetime cap of $50,000.  For additional information, please visit the Trust's website at www.evaleeschwarztrust.org.  Applications for the 2008-2009 school year  will be available on the website on January 1, 2008.

Siebel Foundation Educational Loan

The Abe and Annie Sievel Foundation grants interest-free educational loans to USA citizens and Texas residents who have graduated from Texas high schools.  Students must enroll full-time with the intention of completing the requirements for a first bachelor's degree.  Class rank, SAT/ACT scores and GPA scores are used to rank students.  For additional information or an application, contact:  Abe and Annie Seibel Foundation, c/o The Frost Bank - Trust Dept., P.O. GRAD PLUS Loan

To apply for this loan, you must agree that the borrower or the student
meet all of the following eligibility requirements:

College Access Loan- Undergraduate and Graduate students may apply for funds up to their cost of attendance minus other aid.   Students are required to be a Texas resident and have a credit-worthy co-signor.  Interest accrues immediately, but student is not responsible for repayment on interest or principle until 6 months after graduation.  The application and current interest rate information is available on-line at www.hhloans.com/borrowers/calfactsheet.cfm.

Wells Fargo Collegiate Loan – Students enrolled full-time, half-time, or less than half-time can apply with approved credit. You can borrow up to your cost of education less other financial aid received. There are no origination fees. You can apply on-line at www.wellsfargo.com/student.

Wachovia Education Loan-  Students enrolled at least half-time may borrow up to their cost of attendance less any other financial assistance received. Students with past due balance up to three years can apply up to actual charges. Students may apply on their own if they meet the credit guidelines, or may apply with a co-signor.  For more information, or to apply on-line, visit www.educaid.com  

CitiAssist Loan – Students may apply for the CitiAssist loan with no loan fees, and may borrow up to the full cost of education less any financial aid received.  Students must be enrolled at least half-time and must have a credit-worthy co-signer.  You can apply on-line at www.citibank.com.

Sallie Mae Signature Loan – Students must be enrolled at least half-time, and must be in good academic standing, and may borrow up to their cost of education minus other aid received.  Interest rates are variable.  Apply on-line or call 1-800-695-3317.

Teri Alternative Loan-  Undergraduate students may apply for the Teri Alternative Loan with a co-borrower who meets credit criteria and has sufficient current income of at least $1500 a month.  Students may borrow up to the cost of education less any financial assistance received.  Students can apply by phone at 1-800-255-8374, option 2.  Students can download the Teri Alternative Loan Application and Brochure from www.teri.org and fax it to 1-888-FAX-TERI.

Key Alternative Loan-  Students enrolled at least half-time may apply for a Key Loan with approved credit.  Students must be credit-worthy, or obtain a credit-worthy co-signor to qualify for this loan.  Students may borrow up to the cost of their education less any other financial assistance received.  Students may apply by telephone at 1-800-KEY-LEND, or on-line at www.key.com.
