San Antonio will come together for 24 hours of nonprofit giving during the Big Give S. A. It is San Antonio’s first ever giving day, and it is your chance to make a real impact. All you have to do is commit to donating to the University of the Incarnate Word on May 6th through the Big Give SA website and you help us become eligible for prize money and matching dollar opportunities. This is a great and fun opportunity to increase donor participation and raise funds for a worthy cause.
The university is committed to educational excellence in a context of faith in Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word of God. It promotes life-long learning and fosters the development of the whole person. The faculty and students support one another in the search for and the communication of truth. The university is open to thoughtful innovation that serves ever more effectively the spiritual and material needs of people. The curriculum offers students an integrated program of liberal arts and professional studies that includes a global perspective and an emphasis on social justice and community service.
The University of the Incarnate Word is a Catholic institution that welcomes to its community persons of diverse backgrounds, in the belief that their respectful interaction advances the discovery of truth, mutual understanding, self-realization, and the common good.
Fine Arts Center Mabee Foundation Challenge Grant
UIW currently has a wonderful opportunity to leverage donors’ contributions through the Mabee Foundation’s challenge grant. The J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Oklahoma has committed to making a grant of $800,000 toward UIW’s Campaign for the Fine Arts Center if UIW can raise $405,000 by October 2014. If UIW meets this challenge students, faculty and the community will benefit from a new 30,000 sq. ft. Fine Arts Center. The current facilities for the Arts degree programs were built over 50 years ago, in 1963, when undergraduate enrollment for UIW averaged 1,500 students. With UIW’s current enrollment well over 9,500, these facilities are inadequate to serve current and new students.
Your BIG GIVE to this cause will help UIW provide new art galleries for student and faculty work and display of permanent collections, a new music building, a completely renovated auditorium, and new recital halls for large and small-scale performances by students, faculty, and San Antonio community arts groups.
Scholarships are an important part of the overall financial aid package many students need to afford their education. Having a scholarship gives access to higher education for students of all income levels. With the assistance of scholarship money, they can focus on their studies and graduate with the high grades they have the potential to achieve.
Your BIG GIVE to this cause would certainly help relieve the financial stress of well deserving individuals, many of whom are first-generation college students.
Endowment growth allows the University to provide excellent learning opportunities for disadvantaged and worthy students, while also lowering the cost of tuition for all. It enables professors to participate in research activities and additional scholarly work, pursuits that increase the quality of the University’s faculty, and it benefits the community by attracting and retaining more academically talented students and faculty, who otherwise would go to other schools out of the city and state.
Your BIG GIVE to this cause would help UIW expand its Endowment Fund to better serve UIW students, faculty and the greater community with more scholarships, professorial chairs and program support.
