Stephanie Hartzell

"Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me."

- Psalm 103:2

Dr. Hartzell earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, with an emphasis in Research Methods. This degree program allowed her to explore psychological concepts such as cognition, motivation, assessment, and learning, while focusing on advanced statistics (e.g., structural equation modeling), and various methods of conducting research. She has taught a combination of graduate and undergraduate levels of research methods and statistics and has found passion in teaching. Dr. Hartzell believes that focusing on student interests and developing a respectful rapport is important when teaching research-related topics.

Her dissertation was titled: Factors Affecting Talent Development: Differences in Graduate Students Across Domains. Within this study she analyzed the differences in personal-psychological attributes, environment-social factors, and cognitive ability (analytical-thinking and creative-thinking ability) to determine whether these attributes are different among graduate students from three different discipline areas—Arts, Science, and Education. She examined their experiences in adolescence to understand how their developmental backgrounds helped them decide their educational path. Dr. Hartzell has also conducted educational research based on self-efficacy, talented and gifted teachers, and epistemological beliefs in teachers..
