The University of the Incarnate Word’s Dreeben School of Education and Doctoral Student Association hosted its Annual Doctoral Student Research Symposium on Saturday, Nov. 4 in the Gorman Building. Students were recognized for research conducted and scholarly activity independent of a classroom project. Participants received welcoming remarks to kick-off the Symposium by Denise Staudt, Ed.D., associate provost and dean of the Dreeben School of Education.

Students Elizabeth Payne, LeWayne Ballard, Chao Yi Wang, Marc Gilbert and Reem Alsunaydi,  were recognized at the symposium.

Symposium keynote speaker Dr. Sandra L. Guzman Foster presented, The Research Experience: Passion, Heart and Desire, followed by dissertation presentations from Dr. Jacquelyn Poplawsky Ortiz, Dr. Cigdem Kocoglu Meek and Dr. Darlene Carbaja. Students shared research projects on various topics that include healthcare, technology and education.

The 2017 Dean's Award was presented to Lewayne Ballard, a Doctoral Student in the Organizational Leadership concentration for his research on Child Safety on the Internet: Establishing a Cybersecurity Education Framework through Participatory Action Research.
