Dr. Mary Ruth Moore

Highlights:
Mary Ruth Moore is a native of Tomball, Texas. She graduated from Tomball High School and did her undergraduate work at Baylor University where she graduated with a B.A. in Elementary Education and English. Her Masters is from Butler University in Indianapolis and her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction is from the University of Texas at Austin. She is the wife of the Rev. Marshall Moore and together they serve Crestview Baptist Church. Her teaching experiences began in Texas and led her to teach in Kentucky, Indiana, and South Carolina before returning to Austin to finish out her twenty-five years in the public schools. Upon completition of her doctorate, she began teaching at UIW in 1993. Accolades include the Piper Professor of Texas in 2003, the Higher Education Award for San Antonio Association for the Education of Young Children, the UIW STAR Teacher Award, and Director’s Mentoring Project Award. In the public schools she was Teacher of the year at the local, district, and state levels in Texas, Indiana, and South Carolina.

- Research interests have led her to photograph playgrounds all over the world; collect data on children’s literature around the world; and conduct extensive research into the history of early childhood education.
