Community Service FAQs

One of the main tasks for the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability is to assist and facilitate community service for all students. We invite you to visit the UIW Engage website powered by Give Pulse. Click on "events" and various local and regional service opportunities will be available for you to sign-up and attend. Please be sure to complete the "impact" portion of the activity, as part of the reflection. If the "impact" is not completed for each service activity completed, the hours will not be "verified" and approved as part of the graduation requirement. Should you have any questions, feel free to email (ccl@uiwtx.edu) call us at (210) 283-6423 or come by the office located on the UIW Main Campus, Administration Building, Room 158.

The Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability hopes to make this process as easy as possible. Thus, we invite you to click on the following link to the UIW ENGAGE Users Guide. Should you need any additional assistance or have questions, you are always more than welcome to contact us at (210) 283-6423 or ccl@uiwtx.edu, or visit us at the Administration Building, Room 158.

Yes, donating blood and/or platelets would count toward the community service graduation requirement. Please be sure to have the Community Service Form filled out and completed.

There is no longer any type of "On" or "Off" campus requirement. Students only need to complete the hours prior to applying for graduation.

We are glad that you took the time and effort to assist a community member, although this particular task would not fulfill the requirement of community service. Should you need assistance in finding a Community Based Organization or other not-for-profit organization that would meet the community service criteria, please feel free to contact or visit us at your convenience.

A primary focus of the Ettling Center is to assist students with available opportunities to conduct community service in the Greater San Antonio area. We are located in room 158 of the Administration Building and would be more than happy to visit with you to discuss the various opportunities currently available.
