Our beloved Chaplain Philip Lamberty, O.P.

August 13, 1932 - July 17, 2008
Fr. Philip Lamberty, O.P. passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Thursday, July 17th at the age of 75. Fr. Philip served as Chaplain for UIW since the fall of 2003
He entered the Dominican Novitiate at St. Peter Martyr Priory in Winona, MN in 1952 and was ordained a priest at St. Rose Priory, Dubuque, IA on May 23, 1959. Father served as Parochial Vicar at St. Thomas More Parish of Tulane University, New Orleans from 1981 to 1984 and at St. Dominic Parish, New Orleans from 1967 to 1974 and again from 1989 to 1993. He was Parochial Vicar at St. Dominic Parish, Miami, FL from 1993 to 1996 and also ministered as a Teacher and Counselor in Salina, KS, Chaplain at Wichita State University, University of Houston, and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Prior to retirement, Father was Campus Minister at Incarnate Word, San Antonio, TX. His Parents, Margaret Ann Reith Lamberty and Lambert Paul Lamberty, preceded him in death. He is survived by a brother, Gerald P. Lamberty, a sister-in-law, Elisa Lamberty, and two nieces, Kathleen Lamberty and husband Bud Swope and Monica Bond-Lamberty and husband Ben Bond Lamberty. A Prayer Service and Funeral Mass were held at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 775 Harrison Avenue, New Orleans, LA where he had served as Pastor in the late 1960s. Fr. Philip was laid to rest at the Dominican Friars Cemetery, Rosaryville, Ponchatoula, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dominican Friars Retirement Fund, 1421 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie, LA 70001, preferred.

As a University community we will remember and celebrate the life of Fr. Philip Lamberty, O.P on Tuesday, September 16, 2009 at 10:30 am in Our Lady's Chapel.
