On February 14th, UIW celebrates Frederick Douglass' 200th birthday by taking part in the yearly "Douglass Transcribe-athon," sponsored by the Smithsonian, the Colored Convention, and National Museum of African American History and Culture. This is is a nationwide crowdsourcing project that invites participants to help upload and digitize the archives of the historic Federal Freedmen's Bureau. The event will happen Wednesday, February 14th at the UIW Mabee Library Auditorium from 12-3:00. The entire UIW community is welcome to come enjoy birthday cake, help transcribe, and enjoy a live feed from the celebration Smithsonian Institute. This is a unique opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to help make the Freedmen's Bureau documents available to scholars and genealogists, alike.
