Nationally renowned eco-feminist Carol Adams will be coming to UIW in October to present a one-hour, dynamic, and challenging talk called “The Sexual Politics of Meat” that draws upon images of women and animals in contemporary popular culture to discuss oppressive attitudes. The presentation provides an eco-feminist analysis of the interconnected oppressions of sexism, racism, and speciesism by exploring the way popular culture draws on dominant Western philosophical viewpoints regarding race, gender, and species that further objectification.
Sponsored by the Women’s and Gender Studies department and the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, the presentation will take place from 6:30-7:00 on Wednesday, October 11th in the Student Engagement Center Ballroom. Following the hour-long presentation will be a vegan reception as well as a book signing with Carol Adams. For further information, contact LuElla D’Amico at firstname.lastname@example.org.
