Faculty and Administration

In order to be successful, the University of the Incarnate Word utilizes a fine combination of professionals, including physicians, athletic trainers, and a wide variety of medical consultants from many diverse educational backgrounds. The athletic training students are exposed to variety of injuries and medical conditions through observation and directed study at the university athletic training room, team physician's offices, hospital, clinic and other affiliated settings. After completing the program, the student gains a realistic view of the profession.

Mr. Brad Robinson, MS, ATC, LAT
Program Director, Clinical Instrutor Educator (CIE) and Instructor

Robinson is in his fifth year as the program director and instructor of athletic training in the Athletic Training Education Program at UIW, but his fourteenth year overall . A 1994 graduate of the accredited athletic training education program at the Texas State University - San Marcos (formerly Southwest Texas State University) and 2002 graduate of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin with a masters degree in Kinesiology with a exercise physiology concentration. Currenlty he is enrolled in the doctoral program for Administator Leadership in Teaching and Learning at Walden University. Robinson is board certified in athletic training as well as holding athletic training license from the State of Texas. Robinson serves the role of instructor, program director, and clinical instructor educator at UIW. Prior to coming to UIW, Robinson was Instructional Assistant Professor at Illinois State University, Head Athletic Trainer and Instructor at St. Edward's University, Head Athletic Trainer and Adjunct Professor at Frank Phillips College, Head Athletic Trainer and Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and Head Athletic Trainer at West Texas A&M University.

Mrs. Shandra Esparza, MEd, ATC, LAT
Clinical Coordinator of Athletic Training Education and Instructor

Esparza is in her second year as clinical coordinator and instructor of atheltic training at UIW. She graduated from Texas State University - San Marcos (formaterly Southwest Texas State University) in 1996 from the undergraduate accredited athletic training education program and earned her masters in 1997. Currenlty she is enrolled in the doctoral program for Administator Leadership in Teaching and Learning at Walden University. Esparza is board certified in athletic training as well as holding athletic training license from the State of Texas. Esparza serves the role of instructor, clinical coordinator, and will assume the role of clinical instructor educator at UIW after proper training. Prior to coming to UIW, Esparza was Program Director for Foundation Sports Medicine at the New Braunfels Surgical Center and has served as an instructor in the Athletic Training Education Programs at Texas State University-San Marcos, Texas Lutheran University and Southwestern University.

Lough

Mr. BJ Lough, MEd, ATC, LAT
Adjunct Instructor

Lough has been an Instructor of Athletic Training in the Athletic Training Education Program and the Department of Human Performance since his arrival in 2002. A graduate of the University of Findlay (Ohio) with a bachelor's in athletic training (1995) and a master's in educational technology (2000). Lough is board certified in athletic training as well as holding athletic training licenses from the states of Ohio and Texas. Prior to coming to UIW, Lough was a Certified Athletic Trainer at the University Findlay with responsibilities in six different sports and has had experience in private practice with Optima Rehabilitation Services in Tiffin, Ohio. Lough also serves as head athletic trainer at the university overseeing all intercollegiate athletic teams and the athletic training staff.

Reyes

 

Ms. Vanessa Reyes, MEd, ATC, LAT
Adjunct Instructor

Reyes is has been an adjunct professor of athletic training in the Athletic Training Education Program at the university since 2004. A 2000 graduate of the accredited athletic training education program at the New Mexico State University and 2003 graduate of UIW with a masters in education, Reyes is board certified in athletic training as well as holding the athletic training license from the state of Texas. Reyes also serves as assistant athletic trainer at the university covering men's soccer, swimming, synchronized swimming, and softball.
