With UIW taking the first point of the game, the Lady Buffs were never able to pull away with a lead of more than three points until the 12-8 mark. After a Cardinal timeout, WTAM scored two points for the 26-24 lead and UIW came back with a kill from Stephanie Tomasik to cut the lead down to one. But, it wasn’t enough as the Lady Buffs score four more points compared to just one from the Cardinals to take the 30-26 win.

CARDINALS PICKED TO FINISH SIXTH -- posted Thursday, August 16 2007
Facing a rebounding season and with a roster that is one-third newcomers, Incarnate Word’s volleyball team has been slotted in at sixth in the annual Heartland Conference pre-season poll.
A year ago the Cardinals missed out on the post-season championship tournament which takes the top four teams from the regular season. And with 2006 champion Montana State / Billings having departed the Heartland, the throne room is wide open.
Even with three newcomers eligible for the 2007 title—Newman of Kansas, Texas A&M International and Texas / Permian Basin—the coaches in the poll have pushed two Heartland standbys to the top of the heap. St. Mary’s and St. Edward’s are predicted to battle for the top spot.
2007 HEARTLAND PRE-SEASON POLL
1) St. Mary’s
2) St. Edward’s
3) Dallas Baptist
4) Texas / Permian Basin
5) Texas A&M International
6) Incarnate Word
7) Newman (Kan)
8) Oklahoma Panhandle
