Women's Swimming Coach

HEAD COACH -- PHILLIP DAVIS

Phillip Davis, Head Coach

Phillip Davis is entering his second season as the head swimming coach at Incarnate Word.

His appointment was announced by UIW Athletic Director Mark Papich and became effective in mid-June (2006).

Davis joins the Cardinals after working three years as the assistant swimming coach for both men and women at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas. While there, two OBU swimmers participated in the US Olympic trials and 26 athletes achieved All-American status.

On the women's side, since he arrived at Ouachita Baptist in the spring of 2003, every single mark in the school's record book has been broken.

Additionally, at OBU twice the swimming teams had the nation's highest cumulative grade point average.

For the past five years, he was an instructor in the Ouachita Baptist health, physical education and recreation department. Additionally, this past spring semester he was an adjunct teacher in the physical education department at Henderson State University.

Since May of 2003, he has been the head USAS coach for the Satellite team of the Little Rock, Ark., Dolphins. Over that same time span, he coached swimming and diving at Arkadelphia, Ark., High School where his teams consistently were in the state's top 10 and where two of his squads won state titles.

He currently is president of the South Arkansas Swimming Association.

As a swimmer at Ouachita Baptist, he earned four varsity letters and was the team captain.

A native of Camden, Ark., Davis holds a bachelor's degree in physical education from Ouachita Baptist and a master's degree in sports administration from Henderson State.


DIVING COACH -- ANDY SCOTT

Andy Scott, Head Diving Coach

Andy Scott, a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University and Springfield College, joins the Incarnate Word swimming and diving staff as the diving coach. Scott, a native of Nashville, Ark., comes to UIW after spending two seasons as the Springfield College graduate assistant and five years as the men’s and women’s diving coach at Duke University.

In addition to his diving coach duties at UIW, Scott has undertaken the lead role in the development of the Center for Spiritual Growth for Athletes.

A biology major at Ouachita Baptist, Scott was an NAIA All-American in 1997 and the NSISL Conference champion in 1999. In 1999 and 2000, Scott was named the Arkansas Male College Diver of the Year. He went on to receive a master’s degree in education from Springfield College.

Scott attended Mineral Springs High School in Arkansas and was a four-sport athlete, competing in football, basketball, baseball and track.

In his free time, Scott enjoys hunting, fishing, playing guitar, and driving down country back roads. He and his wife, Kim, reside in San Antonio.


GRADUATE ASSISTANT -- MATTY KNIPS

 

Matty Knips, Graduate Assistant

Matty Knips joined the Cardinals swimming staff in January of 2007 as the graduate assistant to the expanding program.

He is a 2005 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas where he earned his bachelor's degree in speech communications.  At UIW, he will be working for his master's of education degree.

At OBU, earned four letters for the Tigershark team plus he earned a letter for his one year of soccer play.

He is a native of Slidell, La.
