French Ties for 29th at Super Regionals -- posted Wednesday, May 7 2008
Incarnate Word’s Matt French finished the three-day Super Regional tournament tied for 29th place. The tournament took place at the Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin, Texas, and was hosted by Heartland Conference member, St. Edward’s University.
In the opening round, French shot just over par with 74 strokes. In Round 2 on Tuesday, French shot a 75 and finished the tournament with a score of 79 to finish the tournament 15 over par.

INDIANAPOLIS - Incarnate Word’s Matt French was one of 50 individuals that has been selected to participate in the 2008 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship super regionals.
The South/South Central Super Regional will be held May 5-7 at the Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin and is being hosted by fellow Heartland Conference member St. Edward’s. The top individual finisher will advance to the finals May 14-17 at the Division II Spring National Championships Festival in Houston.
French is the only individual competing from the Heartland Conference with the other four individuals hailing from the Lone Star Conference.
French, a junior from Castroville, was UIW’s highest finisher in every tournament this season, posting three top 10 finishes, including a third place showing early in the season.
At the conference tournament, French finished tied for fifth with a total score of 221.

Junior golfer Matt French was named second-team All-Heartland Conference, announced league officials Monday afternoon.
French was Incarnate Word's highest finisher in every tournament this season, posting three top 10 finishes, including a third place showing early in the season.
At the conference tournament, French finished tied for fifth with a total score of 221.

DALLAS - In the final day of the Heartland Conference Championship Tournament, the Incarnate Word men’s golf team remained in fifth place and despite finishing with 75 strokes on the day, freshman Matt French was the Cardinals’ highest finisher in the three-round tournament.
Will Short, who shot an 87 and 78 through the first two rounds Monday, finished with a team best 74 Tuesday and tied for 23rd. He tied with teammate Martin Jimenez who shot an 85 in the final round. French’s 75 was the second best for UIW on Tuesday. J
Jordan Lambkin finished tied for 17th as he shot an 82 in the final round and Kevin Sandoval took an 83 to finish 28th.
As a team, UIW finished at 915 for fifth place, just one stroke ahead of sixth place Newman. St. Edward’s remained in first place to take the title as it finished with an 875. St. Mary’s finished in second place at 895 while Dallas Baptist and Lincoln tied for third at 902. Oklahoma Panhandle came in last at 979.

DALLAS - The Incarnate Word men’s golf team is tied for fifth after the first two rounds of the Heartland Conference Championship Tournament being held at the Golf Club of Dallas. Leading the team is Matt French, who is tied for seventh place after shooting a 73 in each round.
In ninth place is Jordan Lambkin who shot two-over par with a 72 in Round 1 and finished with a tally of 75 in the second round. Martin Jimenez is tied in the 20th slot after finishing the opening round with a 73 and finished eight strokes higher in Round 2 with an 81.
Kevin Sandoval is sitting tied for 25th and Will Short is currently 33rd. Sandoval shot a 78 and 79 respectively and Short brought in scores of 87 and 78 for the day.
As a team, UIW sits with 601 strokes to tie Newman University, whose highest scorer is in fourth place.
St. Edward’s is leading the pack with a total of 578. The next three spots were decided by two strokes with Dallas Baptist finishing second at 595, Lincoln coming in third at 597 and St. Mary’s in fourth with a 599.
The Cardinals will conclude the tournament Tuesday morning.

Matt French
The Incarnate Word men's golf team finished third with a team score of 641 at the Texas Lutheran ConCan Invitational in Uvalde, Texas. The two-day meet took place over Monday and Tuesday.
Teammates Matt French and Will Short tied for ninth place with a total score of 158. Short shot two over par with a 74 on Monday and French came in with a 78. On Tuesday, French had a total of 80 and Short scored an 84.
Martin Jimenez, who came in 13th, led the way on Tuesday with a 79. Kevin Sandoval shot an 86 and 83 and came in tied for 28th. Jordan Lambkin came in 30th with scores of 82 and 88.
UIW's score of 641 was 21 strokes behind tournament winner Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Weather Cuts Tournament Short; Men Finish 12th -- posted Tuesday, March 4 2008
Bad weather in the Northeast Texas area forced the Incarnate Word men’s golf team to play only one round of the 2008 Pepsi Crawford-Wade Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce.
After being able to sneak a round in on Monday, the Cardinals finished with a score of 327 on the day to finish in 12th place. Teammates Matt French and Dean Sartoris tied for 29th with 80 strokes apiece. Jordan Lambkin was right behind, scoring an 82. Martin Jimenez shot an 85 for the day as Kevin Sandoval tallied an 87.
The Cardinals will return to the course March 17-18 at the Texas Lutheran Invitational at the Con Can Country Club in Uvalde.

AUSTIN - Cardinal golf shot a 316 on the final day to finish the St. Edward’s Invitational in 12th place Tuesday afternoon.
Matt French tied for the 30th spot after shooting a 77 in the final round. Martin Jimenez shot a 78 and finished tied for 55th. Kevin Sandoval shot an 80 and Will Short had one more stroke for an 81 as the pair tied for 61st. Jordan Lambkin finished tied for 69th as he shot an 83 in the final round.
The men return to the course March 3rd and 4th at the Texas A&M-Commerce Invitational to be held at the Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro.

UIW Men 11th After Day 1 at St. Ed's -- posted Monday, February 18 2008
The Incarnate Word men’s golf team finished the first day of the St. Edward’s Invitational in 11th (624) place after two rounds.
Matt French is the Cardinals’ leader tied for 34th. He shot a 78 in the opening rounds and finished three strokes better with a 75 in the second round. Teammates Will Short and Martin Jimenez each shot a 79 in round one before finishing the day with a 78.
UIW will close out the tournament Tuesday with 18 holes beginning at 8:15 a.m.

French Finishes Third, UIW Fourth at Dustdevil Invitational -- posted Tuesday, February 5 2008

Matt French
Matt French and the Cardinals opened up their 2008 spring season Monday and Tuesday at the Texas A&M International Dustdevil Invitational, with French finishing in a tie for third place as Incarnate Word finished in fourth as a team.
French finished with a triple-bogey for the tournament, shooting a par-72 in the opening round before shooting a 73 in round two and firing a round-three 74. Matt Short finished tied for 14th for UIW’s second top-20 finish. Short shot a 75 in the opening and closing rounds and finished six-over in round two.
As a team, the Cards shot a 910 (305-304-301) for the tournament to finish in fourth place behind Texas-Pan American, Texas A&M-Commerce and St. Mary’s.
UIW returns to the course Feb. 18-19 at the St. Edward’s Invitational.
