Women's Cross Country Coaches
DEREK RIEDEL
HEAD COACH

Derek Riedel joined the Incarnate Word athletic staff in October of 2005 as the head coach for both the cross country teams in the fall and the track and field squads in the spring.
With a full year under his belt at Incarnate Word, he has expanded the cross country squads, both men's and women's, to their largest ever in terms of numbers of competitors. And, he has been instrumental in the revival of competitions held at UIW or sponsored by the Cardinals in the San Antonio area.
Additionally, he is an instructor in the Incarnate Word Department of Communications. Immediately prior to joining the Cardinals staff, he taught communications courses at San Antonio's Northwest Vista College. He also has taught speech communications classes at Cisco Junior College.
Before moving to San Antonio, he worked two years as the assistant cross country and track coach at McMurry. During that time he earned his USA Track and Field Level 1 certification. During the summer of 2006 he earned his USATF Level II Certification in endurance events. Then, in 2007, he completed certification at Level II for sprints, hurdles and relays. In the summer of 2008 he will complete his Level III certification in endurance.
A native of Castroville and a graduate of Medina Valley High School, Derek ran four years of cross country and two years of track at McMurry University in Texas. As a senior in 2002 he won the Texas Division III Cross Country Championship after being third in 2001. His personal best for 8K came right here in San Antonio when he ran a 26:59 over a course in Olmos Park. Twice in cross country, he competed in the Division III South Regional Meet and finished 31st in 2001 and 47th in 2002.
In his senior year of 2002, on the outside track, Riedel finished among the leaders in two events in the American Southwest Conference championships. He ran a 35:17.75 in the 10,000 for second place, and in the 5,000 his 17:37.97 was fourth.
Just this past spring, 2006, he ran his second marathon in 2:43 at the Freescale in Austin and that time qualified him for the prestigious Boston Marathon.
Derek holds a bachelor's degree in English from McMurry and a master's degree in communications from Abilene Christian University. Three years he was academic all-conference while at McMurry. In the fall of 2006, at UIW, he will begin studies for a Ph.D. in organizational leadership with an emphasis in sports management.
BREE WILSON-SOILEAU
GRADUATE ASSISTANT

Having completed her UIW bachelor’s degree in nutrition, Bree Wilson-Soileau is back on campus this time as a graduate assistant for first the Cardinals cross country teams and then in the spring with the Incarnate Word track and field squads.
While she is working with the Cardinals runners, she will be seeking a master’s degree in sports management.
As a student-athlete at Incarnate Word, she was successful on both sides of the hyphenated word. Twice she was named to the Heartland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for her success in the classroom. And on the athlete side she won two cross country meets and finished in the top 50 of the South Regional Cross Country Championships.
Moving over to the track, she set, and still holds, UIW records in the 800 meters, the 1,500 meters and the indoors one-mile run.
She also got in some competitive time with the Incarnate Word swimming team.
Away from UIW, she was named a 2006 USAT All-American giving her an ‘elite’ racing status.
In mid-July of 2007 she and Jeff Soileau were married. And, her brother Jay Wilson will be a freshman on the UIW cross country and track teams this year.
