BFA in Art: Program of Study and Degree Sequence

In addition to the core curriculum, students must complete 87 semester hours in Art/Art History as follows:

1. 27 credit hours in Art:

• ARTS 1301 Drawing I (3) & ARTS 2301 Drawing II (3)
• ARTS 1311 Design I (3) & ARTS 2311 Design II (3)
• ARTS 2320 Painting I (3
• ARTS 2342 Ceramics I (3)
• ARTS 2351 Printmaking I(3)
• ARTS 2357 Photography I (3)
• ARTS 2361 Sculpture I (3)
  

2. 6 required credit hours of lower-level Art history:

• ARTH 2361 Art History: Ancient Through Medieval (3)
• ARTH 2362 Art History: Renaissance to Modern (3)

3. 30 credit hours of upper-division Art courses:

• ARTS 3300 Color Theory for Artists
• ARTS 4320 Senior Studio
• ARTS 4390 Senior Capstone
• 21 additional credit hours, of which 15 must be upper-division, of a concentration in a single discipline in one of the following areas: drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, or sculpture.

4. 12 additional credit hours of upper-level Art history and criticism:

• ARTH 3360 Survey in Contemporary Art
• ARTH/PHIL 3375 Philosophy of Aesthetics
• 6 elective hours of upper-division Art history

5. 12 additional credit hours of Art electives with at least 6 being upper-division hours.

Degree Sequence (4-year degree plan)

We offer the following BA in Art degree sequence (four-year degree plan) to assist students and advisors.

Following this sequence increases the likelihood of completing the degree in four years' time. Dropping courses, retaking classes, or registering for less than a full course load will delay graduation, so always consult your academic advisor before deviating from this suggested sequence. Students may enroll in a course only if they have met all prerequisites for that course. Check the UIW Bulletin for details.
