UIW PHARMACY SCHOOL FOUNDING DEAN NAMED
UIW Provost Dr. Terry Dicianna announced that we are bringing a native Texan home! Dr. Arcelia Johnson-Fannin has accepted the position as the founding Dean of the School of Pharmacy. Dr. "J," as her students at Hampton called her, will begin on July 1, 2004. Her first duties will include some grant activities and attendance at two national pharmacy conferences in July. A brief bio is included below. She will arrive on campus in early July. Her offices will temporarily be located on the 2 nd floor of the Watson Enrollment Center.
Biography
Dr. Arcelia Johnson-Fannin is the founding Dean of the Hampton University School of Pharmacy in Hampton, Virginia. Over the past seven years she guided the new school through the steps to full accreditation with ACPE, raised over $2.5 million in the first 3 years of operation, and supervised the ground-up renovation of a building to house the school.
She also was actively engaged, as a Director, in the start-up of the Pharm.D. program at Florida A&M University. In addition to her teaching and administrative experience, Dr. Johnson-Fannin has worked as a pharmacist, research associate pharmacist, and hospital pharmacy consultant. She has served on visiting accreditation teams for both the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

GETTING ALUMNI TOURS ON TRACK
The good news is that alumna Angela McCaffrey Notzon of Fuller Travel in San Antonio has agreed to join us in the quest for exciting alumni travel programs, and the sooner the better. Angela has been in the travel business for fifteen years and has a wonderful record of successful tours and happy travelers. I've since worked for the United Nations in New York, the International Irrigation Water Management Institute, a TV station and an ISP before deciding to become an entrepreneur. Over the last six years, I've started and sold two technology companies, that caused me to live and work in Colombo, Singapore and San Jose. I have since moved back to Colombo where I work as an industry Analyst & Consultant. I have a wife, two kids, two dogs and a pair of turtles. I look forward to hearing from my old friends at Incarnate Word and would especially be interested in making contacts with alumni in Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. Warm regards, Vasee Class of '89."

Does this apply to our Scholarship Sweepstakes?
A person was praying out loud in a chapel, "Please, God, let me win the lottery. I really need the money!"
From the back of the chapel another voice chimed in, "Work with me. Buy a ticket!"

"Help us to Re-found the University for the Future" * This concept is an adaptation of the directions of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word at their last General Chapter which urges the members to "re-found the Congregation." This means to recapture the original founding spirit of 1869 which included dedication, a spirit of fearless innovation, Jesus' Gospel values of service and courage, all within the context of faith. For the university, this means an examination of our founding core values as they continue to animate our mission in the 21st century.
