UIW Pre-Health Advising provides health career exploration and guidance for students pursuing health professions pathways. Our aim is to ensure students successfully prepare for their chosen health profession area while completing their academic degree requirements at UIW. Our Mission

UIW Pre-Health Advising serves students who wish to pursue a career in a healthcare field. Our goal is to provide information concerning professional school expectations, preparation requirements, and application processes, as well as ensure the development of professional practitioners that embody the university's core values of Education, Truth, Faith, Service and Innovation.

What Can Pre-Health Advising Do For You?

Our goal is to ensure that you make informed decisions about your professional future. We do this by providing up-to-date information on professional career paths and the application process for health professions schools. In addition, we connect you with valuable community and university resources to aid in your progress toward your goal. Overall, our aim is to assist you in becoming a strong candidate for your chosen professional pathway.

Advising Goals:

  • Help students select a Health Professions career;
  • Provide information on various Health Professions pathways;
  • Assess student progress for academic preparation for entering professional health professions programs;
  • Identify ways for students to gain exposure and experience in chosen health profession;
  • Provide information on university and community opportunities to strengthen student preparation;
  • Guide students through health professions application processes to ensure successful and timely completion;
  • Provide guidance on obtaining Letters of Reference for student applications.

Health Professions Advising Council

The Health Professions Advising Council (HPAC) is a team of faculty and administrators who help coordinate pre-health advising for UIW undergraduate students. In addition, the committee is responsible for reviewing requests for and providing health professions Committee Letters/Recommendations for UIW undergraduate students as they apply for health professions programs. The Pre-Health Advisor will provide students with additional information on HPAC and the Committee Letter process.
